Job Summary:
The Irrigation Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and optimization of Sports field irrigation systems to ensure the health and vitality of sports fields and park spaces. Reports to SportsPark Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or GED required.
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience in irrigation maintenance and installation. Experience in turf maintenance and dealing with the public; or any combination of relevant education and experience.
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid Texas driver's license.
Essential Job Functions:
Perform regular inspections of irrigation systems and backflows to identify leaks, malfunctions, and inefficiencies. Conduct routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning filters, adjusting sprinkler heads, and lubricating valves. Monitor water usage and schedules to optimize efficiency and conserve resources. Diagnose and troubleshoot system issues, including electrical problems, valve malfunctions, and pipe leaks. Repair and replace irrigation components such as valves, controllers, solenoids, and pipes. Coordinate with contractors and suppliers to obtain parts and equipment for repairs. Assist with installation, modification, and expansion of irrigation systems. Collaborate with designers to ensure proper placement and design of irrigation infrastructure. Implement upgrades such as smart technology, drip systems, and water-saving devices. Maintain records and generate reports on maintenance, repairs, water usage, and conservation efforts. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
Turf maintenance practices including weed control, irrigation, equipment maintenance, fertilization, turf establishment, and renovation. Record-keeping practices and report preparation. Estimating labor, materials, and tools needed for projects. Reading and interpreting blueprints and property maps. Operation of computers, calculators, and other office equipment. Principles of effective oral and written communication. Problem-solving methods in maintenance and operations. Safety procedures and practices for working in varied conditions. Scheduling and time management practices. Requirements for on-call, weekend, and holiday work in turf or grounds operations. City policies and procedures.
Skills in:
Communicating clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Maintaining accurate records and preparing detailed reports. Adapting to changing conditions, priorities, and work environments. Following oral and written instructions while working efficiently under schedules. Performing duties in all types of weather and maintaining readiness for on-call needs
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
This position requires frequent standing and walking throughout the shift, along with periods of sitting, bending, kneeling, and climbing ladders, ramps, or other inclined surfaces. Employees must be able to continuously lift and carry up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and carry up to 100 pounds. The role also involves frequent forward flexion of the upper trunk at the waist, partial flexion at the knees, and rotation of the upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing. Reaching above, at, and below shoulder height is required on a regular basis, and the position demands coordination of eye, hand, and foot movements to safely operate vehicles or equipment.
