Basic Job Requirements:
Exposure to extreme temperatures, extensive pushing/pulling, sitting/walking, frequent stooping or bending over, repetitive movements. Employers have drug screen requirements.
Details:
Operating self-propelled equipment such as swather, chopper, truck trailer, that assists with reaping, harvesting, threshing, swathing crops; Perform adjustments and safety checks; Attach equipment; Weigh containers and record weights; Record information about crops and yields such as weight/scale tickets; Maintain harvest related paperwork such as safety checks and service on machinery; Set up, repair, maintain, and operate irrigation equipment; Inform farmers or farm managers of crop progress; Identify plants, pests, and weeds to determine the selection and application of pesticides and fertilizers; Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery (much of which is equipped with GPS) to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops such as corn, wheat, silage, hay, milo; Load agricultural products into trucks without over or underfilling bed or trailer, and drive to market or storage facilities; Haul and spread topsoil, fertilizer, and other materials to condition soil; Handle manure by scraping, piling, and loading; Support overall farm operations by covering/uncovering silage/feed piles; Mixing and distributing, additives, and medications in prescribed portions; Receive and move cattle at the yard; Provide day to day care for cows, heifers, calves, and yearlings; Observe animals for injury, illness, and growth/weight gain; Assist with calving and weaning; Ensure orphan calves receive colostrum immediately after birth; Feed, water, nurse, assist, vaccinate, medicate, castrate, and providing hay as needed; Hand or machine milk cows; Break ice in water troughs; Sort and segregate animals; Herd livestock to enclosures; Identify animals with brands, tags, paint, or tattoos; Shift between grazing areas to maintain access to forage; Perform reproduction related tasks such as timely breeding, including artificial insemination; The job involves manual labor, lifting, carrying, long days in the heat and/or cold as well as inclement weather such as high winds and precipitation. •
