As a Gender Tech you will be responsible for the highly technical task of identifying the sex of day-old chicks using the manual vent sexing method. This is a precision-based role that requires manual dexterity, sharp vision, and the ability to maintain high accuracy in a fast-paced hatchery environment.
The Gender Technician:
Sets up their own work area; Accurately determines the poults gender, separating the toms from the hens, marking the poult with the assigned color to promote gender identification accuracy; The work requires the
Gender Technician:
To follow the company's rules and regulations for bio security, animal welfare and safety; To operate the gender sorting machines; Ability to handle poults gently in the instructed manner, ability to sit for extended periods of time, ability to walk and use hands for the entire work shift, and the ability to bend, stoop and squat to complete job duties. To have good vision to be able to determine the gender of the poults; To be patient while learning and perfecting the ability to determine the gender of poults; To concentrate at a high level for an extended period of time and to have good hand-eye coordination; To perform other duties required by the supervisor; To be exposed to dust, humidity, chemical and fumes; To work an extended workday if needed; Other duties or tasks as assigned.
Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred. Prior experience in animal husbandry and welfare preferred. Ability to communicate verbally with others; ability to listen; ability to read to perform the duties of the job. Bilingual Spanish speaking ability desired.
