Job Description

The Noxious Weed Control Technician works independently and as part of a team under the supervision of the Noxious Weed Control Director to inventory, map, and control noxious weeds and invasive plant species throughout Clallam County. This field-based position collaborates with federal, state, local, and tribal agencies, as well as private landowners, to implement grant- and contract-funded weed management projects. Responsibilities include plant identification, field surveys, GPS/GIS mapping, herbicide application, physical weed control, data management, reporting, and public outreach activities. The position may also serve as a crew lead for seasonal technicians and assist with educational programs, volunteer events, and special projects. This position is contingent upon continued grant funding. Identifying noxious weeds and other invasive plants found in Clallam County and Washington State Following a work plan to control noxious weed and invasive plant infestations, including the use of herbicide, physical removal and any other control method as specified in the work plan, over a variety of terrain and settings Working with various federal, state and local land agencies, tribal governments and private landowners to coordinate weed control work Act as crew lead and supervise seasonal technicians in the field Conducting field surveys and mapping weed infestations using GPS/GIS equipment in a variety of terrain and settings Assisting in data management and reporting including database and ArcGIS data entry and analysis, as well as drafting project reports summarizing data and activities Assisting Director and other staff in conducting educational activities or public service events, including volunteer events. Assisting staff to survey and treat noxious weeds and other invasive plants on County owned or managed lands Assisting with other special projects, surveys, and control efforts, or other responsibilities or in- office work, as needed. Requires knowledge of the field of assignment sufficient to perform thoroughly and accurately the full scope of responsibility as illustrated by examples in the above job description. Education/Training Bachelor's degree with a major in plant biology, weed science, forestry, environmental science, natural science, weed identification and/or management or a related field preferred. Experience 1 year experience in natural resource management work preferred Necessary Special Requirements Possession of a Washington State Public Pesticide Operator License with an aquatic endorsement, or must obtain one within 30 days of hire.
