Owner Position Summary:
The Farm Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of row crop production, including planning, planting, growing, harvesting, equipment management, employee supervision, and budget control. This position requires strong agronomic knowledge, leadership skills, and experience managing large-scale crop operations to maximize productivity, efficiency, and profitability. Key Responsibilities Crop Production & Agronomy Plan and manage annual production of row crops such as corn, soybeans, or other regional crops. Develop and implement planting, fertilization, irrigation, and pest management programs. Monitor crop health and field conditions throughout the growing season. Coordinate soil sampling, tissue testing, and agronomic recommendations. Work with agronomists, seed dealers, and crop consultants to optimize yields. Equipment & Facility Management Oversee operation, maintenance, and repair of farm machinery and equipment. Manage planting, spraying, tillage, irrigation, and harvesting equipment. Ensure equipment is properly maintained to minimize downtime. Financial & Record Keeping Maintain accurate records for planting, chemical applications, yields, equipment maintenance, and labor. Assist with crop insurance reporting and government program compliance. Qualifications 5+ years of experience managing row crop operations. Strong knowledge of crop production, agronomy, fertility, and pest management. Experience operating and maintaining modern agricultural equipment. Proficiency with farm management software, GPS guidance systems, and precision agriculture technology. Valid driver's license. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Agricultural Business, or related field. Experience with precision farming technologies, yield mapping, and variable-rate applications. Commercial Applicator License (or ability to obtain). Skills & Competencies Leadership and team management Strategic planning and decision-making Equipment troubleshooting Problem-solving and attention to detail Strong communication and organizational skills Knowledge of precision agriculture systems Physical Requirements Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to climb, bend, and operate agricultural equipment. Extended hours during planting and harvest seasons.
