Job Summary:
The Assistant Farm Manager assists in the management of farm activities including, farm staff management, plant and equipment management, record keeping, regulatory management. This position is responsible for assisting in ensuring a safe and healthy work environment through the effective and efficient management of farm staff. This position sets a high standard of work ethic and dependability both to our customers, Republic Services and the community by seeing that farm operations are directed in the best possible way to fulfill the goals for our customers and our Company. Must work weekends.
Areas of Responsibility:
  • Assist in management and development of farm staff including: o Hire, train and supervise farm staff o Prepare staff work schedules to ensure herd is properly cared for and maintained at all times o Preparation of semi-annual and annual written staff performance evaluations and compensation reviews as approved by owners o Meet as required with Farm Manager and Owners to review staff development plans, staffing needs, human resource and operation matters o Ensure staff is focused on safety at all times, following company guidelines & procedures • Plant operation and processing Livestock feed o Learn to process feed from dumping in raw products to processing and cooking.
Ensure feed is always available for livestock o Managing deliveries and pickups, and timely use of feed products. Working with feed suppliers to keep logs and proper schedules. o Manage employees at plant to achieve feed and processing goals o Monitor daily operation and maintenance, keep records of maintenance performed, perform minor repairs and notify management in a timely manner of any issues o Keep Plant area clean and manage waste appropriately
  • Safe, clean operation of equipment, barns and buildings o Ensure equipment, vehicles, barns and buildings are in safe and effective working order o Order and purchase tools, equipment as needed with a value of $500 or less.
If purchases exceed limit, review with Owners on a timely basis o Provide accident and diagnostic reports for vehicles and equipment o Maintain fuel log for equipment and call for fue submit all reports to manager o Research and purchase parts and supplies for vehicles and equipment o Direct staff as required to properly clean vehicles and equipment (cabs, windows etc.)
  • Swine Enterprise o Assist in day to day operational decisions in accordance with authority and spending levels determined by Farm Manager and Owners o Provide input to Farm Manager and Owners on ▪ Short, intermediate and long-range planning for profitable, safe, healthy operation of the enterprise ▪ One year in advance plan rotation of holiday staffing schedules ▪ Maintain inventory documentation of livestock
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong management abilities including ability to motivate, train and supervise staff effectively
  • Strong time management skills and ability to independently schedule all required farm activities
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Trustworthy, honest & strong work ethic
  • Valid Driver's license
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • I idle candidate will be able communicate in both English and Spanish (Spanish fluency needed to communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking employees)
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret procedure manuals
  • Understand and follow instructions
  • Able to frequently stoop (25-50%), bend (25-50%), reach (25-50%), and twist (25-50%), stand/walk (85%), and lift/carry objects up to 40lbs (25-50%)
  • Perform strenuous work in varying conditions Must be flexible, reliable and punctual (with regard to scheduling)
