From growing regions throughout the USA, Canada, South America, and Mexico, Wish Farms is a nationally recognized year-round supplier of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries. We have an exciting career opportunity available for a talented and motivated individual to join our fruit breeding team in Santa Maria, California as a Field Technician 1. This position will provide support to the CA Breeding Team. Responsibilities include assisting in various day-to-day tasks related to the breeding program. The Field Technician 1 will play a crucial role in supporting daily operations in a detail-oriented manner and capable of working in a fast-paced environment. This position involves a range of duties including test plot maintenance, fruit harvest, data collection, and fruit shipments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
- Assist the CA Breeding Team in leading crews and performing tasks
- Be present and prompt on responding to day-to-day issues as they present
- Lead test plot harvesting o Label and track plants/fruit accurately using barcodes and tablets o Packaging o Data entry o Quality control
- Assist in coordination of field harvest/fruit data collection for breeding test plots o Follow quality and maturity guidelines for fruit collection o Measure yield, fruit size and brix o Sort/pack fruit for shipment o Accurately input data related to harvest, phenotyping, and inventory directly into database o Review and verify information for accuracy and consistency
- Help the CA Breeding Team with the general care of our plants in the field, such as staking, trimming, trellising, and more
- Maintain high levels of pest control, using IPM techniques where possible
- Engrain yourself in the Wish Farms culture and consistently demonstrate our core values of Quality, Integrity and Responsiveness
- Perform other tasks as associated with position and as requested by management
