Physical ability to work in various weather conditions and perform manual labor as needed. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly. Physical movement to include kneeling, squatting, bending, lifting and standing.
Job Description:
The Horticultural Science Department, Tree Fruit Breeding Program, Gainesville is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented full-time Field Technician to support ongoing research activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating field trials operations and research support primarily focused on avocado, as well as other fruit tree species. Duties include, but not limited to: Fieldwork involving the planting and cultivation of avocado research plots. Data collection at experimental trials and analyses in the greenhouse and laboratory. Occasional overnight travel to multiple research avocado locations in central and south Florida. Monitor the grower's requirements and inquiries regarding the care of avocado trees. Maintain maps and records of materials and activities for each avocado trial. Assists growers and personnel for planting, fertilizing, and pruning trees. Collect and prepare samples from trials; fruit, soil, leaf.
Expected Salary:
$15 - 20 hour commensurate with experience
Required Qualifications:

Preferred:
Bachelor´s degree in Agriculture or related field preferred but not required Familiarity with data collection tools and software.
