This position also assists with collecting biological and environmental data using appropriate equipment, including seines, plankton nets, gill and hoop nets, electro-fishing gear, and other scientific gear. This position collects fishery-dependent survey data and works to maintain sampling equipment. This position is domiciled in Lafayette, Louisiana. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties:
This Technician position functions to perform limited freshwater fish sampling and monitoring of freshwater aquatic habitats across a large geographical region in Southcentral Louisiana and is domiciled in Lafayette, Louisiana. General supervision is received from a Biologist Supervisor. This position participates in a fisheries sampling crew. Responsibilities include conducting various fish sampling methods using multiple gear-types. Conducts boat/equipment maintenance along with actions that support research and development projects for public water bodies. Duties also include the collection of biological fisheries and aquatic data for research projects used by the Department in the formulation of management plans. Operating and maintaining high pressure spray pumps, boats, winches, trailers, navigational equipment, motor vehicles, and power tools. assists with general maintenance of buildings and grounds, including general upkeep of equipment, and assists in major facility renovations, including general carpentry. May operate machinery and heavy equipment, including but not limited to: tractors equipped with front-end loaders, zero-turn mowers, and ATVs . Performs minor duties involving aquatic plant control when directed. Performs minor repairs to the parking area, ramp, or piers.
Position-Specific Details:
This position will be domiciled in Lafayette, Lafayette Parish, Louisiana. Moderate to strenuous physical exertion is required for such activities as lifting objects over 50 pounds, hand dragging seines in lakes and ponds over slippery and irregular bottoms, and working out of boats in inclement weather. Some overnight travel may be required.

Career Progression :
This position may be filled as a Wildlife and Fisheries Technician A, B, or C, depending on experience.
Compensation:
The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.
