Job Description

This Limited Term (LT) Fisheries Technician position supports field and research activities on Lake Michigan and its connected waters. Primary duties include assisting the Michigan DNR and collaborating partners on multiple research projects focused on Lake Michigan ecosystem changes and species invasions in Big Bay de Noc, Good Harbor Bay, and the Saugatuck nearshore zone. Work responsibilities broadly include conducting fisheries and aquatic habitat surveys at multiple sites before and after experimental control of invasive dreissenid mussels. Specific tasks may include sampling physical characteristics and biological communities of reef ecosystems, monitoring egg deposition and larval emergence of native lithophilic reef-spawning fishes, collecting exotic egg predators, capturing and acoustically tagging adult fishes, and deploying and maintaining underwater sampling equipment and acoustic receivers. Position Description This is a two-year limited-term position with the possibility of extension. There are two vacancies for this posting.
EDUCATION
Possession of an associate's degree in science with course work emphasis in limnology, ichthyology, aquatic systems, or field biology.
EXPERIENCE
Fisheries Technician 8 No specific type or amount is required. Fisheries Technician 9 One year of experience performing technical fisheries management activities equivalent to a Fisheries Technician. Fisheries Technician E10 Two years of experience performing technical fisheries management activities equivalent to a Fisheries Technician, including one year equivalent to a Fisheries Technician 9. Fisheries Technician E10 Possession of a bachelor's degree or higher with 16 semester (24 term) credits in job specific or related course work may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
