Located in Manhattanville, our state-of-the-art Jerome L. Greene Science Center provides an inspiring home for discovery in one of the world's most dynamic cities. Columbia University's Mortimer B. Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute seeks a Magnetic Resonance Technologist and Safety Officer (MRSO) to support the Magnetic Resonance Research Platform. The Technologist/MRSO is a vital member of the Institute's MR Platform. Reporting directly to the MR Managing Director, the Technologist/MRSO is responsible for day-to-day operations of two 3T Siemens MRI systems, supporting researchers by assisting with the execution of their studies, and for the maintenance and enforcement of safety policies, procedures, and training. This role involves working within a specialized environment and may require compliance with specific health and safety protocols, including preventive health measures, to ensure safe interaction within the research setting. Responsibilities Assists investigators in data collection and data transfer. Serves as an expert operator of Siemens Prisma 3T systems during research studies. Develop, document, and enforce MR safety procedures for research studies, with a focus on maintaining minimal risk. Ensure compliance with FDA, IRB, IACUC, and Columbia University regulations, practices, and policies. Risk assessment for research participants with implanted devices, tattoo or other conditions. Administer Safety Training for MR system users. Maintain calendar for MR system use. Maintain supplies for day-to-day research operations. Ensures MR system is operational and safe by performing diagnostic checks. Other job-related duties, as required. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in radiologic technology or similar field. 4-6 years of related experience is required. Current certification in MRI and active member of American Registry of Radiologic Technologists ( ARRT ) in good standing. Current MRSO certification or within 90 days of hiring. Other Requirements Prior experience with Siemens MR systems, especially in a research environment. Prior experience in neuroimaging MRI methods (structural, functional, diffusion, spectroscopy). Demonstrated passion for customer service focus with the ability to interact and collaborate. Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Ability to handle multiple projects under tight time deadlines. Ability to work as a member of a collaborative team while exercising independent judgment. The successful candidate must be flexible in nature, have a sound judgment with a collaborative style that fosters teamwork and cooperation beyond the immediate team to the broader organization.
