This position will assist in the implementation and monitoring of aquatic habitat improvement projects targeting anadromous and resident salmonids in addition to other focal species within the Hood River Basin. The selected candidate will assist with monitoring efforts such as stream habitat surveys, fisheries surveys (snorkeling, electrofishing), and riparian vegetation surveys, as well as project support activities including project objective tracking, logistical support, and assisting the lead Fisheries Biologist during construction. This position will also assist with office-based tasks as necessary including data management, data uploading, and reporting.

Responsibilities:

1. Assist in the implementation and monitoring of conservation and restoration projects on private and public lands.

These projects will include:

instream habitat improvements, channel restoration, riparian plantings, irrigation piping and efficiency, and fish passage improvements. 2. Assist in the implementation of fisheries projects/studies; carry out assigned duties efficiently and ensure quality control of project implementation. 3. Maintain accurate records through database updating, notebooks, activity logs, and data management. 4. Maintain gear used daily, and communicate needs for repairs/replacements with project biologists. 5. Assist with writing reports that reflect progress and details of project work efforts. 6. Assist project management staff with record keeping relating to project development and implementation. Knowledge & Skills (Qualifications): The ideal applicant: Demonstrates the desire to pursue a career in fisheries Has general knowledge of Pacific salmonid identification, sampling and collection techniques Demonstrates the ability to follow directions via written protocols Accurately collects and records data via paper and tablets Accurately records and performs QA/QC on datasets via excel spreadsheets and/or R programming language Must be comfortable with frequent travel to nearby project sites, often independently in locations throughout the Hood River Basin Education and Experience (Required): An associate's degree in Fisheries or Natural Resource studies, plus at least six months of experience natural resource type work OR a minimum of three years experience with fisheries/natural resources with strong proficiency in knowledge and skills. Familiarity with Pacific Northwest salmonids, and their habitats. Must have a current Oregon Driver's License, be able to pass a Drug Test, and a Background Check upon hiring. Ability to obtain drone pilot's license upon hiring is desired. Ability to lift objects in excess of 50lbs, and ability to withstand several hours in hot and/or inclement weather. Applicant must be familiar with MS Office software tools. Ability to use GPS and tablets for data collection is strongly desired. Qualified individuals must have excellent people and communication skills and the ability to communicate needs to complete projects within given timeframes. Excellent organizational skills.
