1-2 openings Job Overview The Moab Mosquito Abatement District is hiring seasonal Vector Control Technician I employees to support mosquito control operations throughout the Moab area. This position focuses on mosquito larval surveillance and control using Integrated Mosquito Management (IMM/IPM) practices. Technicians work outdoors conducting inspections, identifying breeding sites, applying larvicides, and helping reduce mosquito populations that impact public health. What You'll Do Inspect areas for mosquito breeding sites (standing water, drainage systems, containers, wetlands) Train to become a ground visual observer during heavyweight unmanned aircraft systems based (drone) larval control treatments Apply pesticides, primarily biological/biorational larvicides according to label and safety requirements Conduct mosquito surveillance by collecting mosquito samples Perform source reduction or habitat modification related work Operate equipment including backpack granular blowers, hand tools, and ATVs/UTVs Drive district vehicles on paved and unpaved roads Maintain accurate records of sample collections, inspections and treatments Assist with mosquito trapping and other field data collection as needed Educate residents about our program and what they can do to help Working Conditions Outdoor work in Moab during the summer involves exposure to high temperatures (often 100°F+) sun, uneven terrain, standing water, and insects Physically active work including walking, lifting, and carrying equipment Work may occur in remote or rural areas as well as around town Requirements Must be 18+ Valid driver license with good driving record Ability to work outdoors in physically demanding conditions, including extreme heat Ability to follow safety procedures and pesticide label instructions Strong reliability, work ethic, and attention to detail Good communication skills Preferred Qualifications Background or coursework in biology, environmental science, agriculture, or related field Experience with outdoor work Experience operating ATVs/UTVs or similar equipment Pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain) Familiarity with GPS or mobile data collection tools Why Work Here?
