General familiarity with automated FISH laboratory equipment, assay validation, and quality control/quality assurance. Bachelor's degree or higher, in Biology/Molecular/Genetics or Clinical Lab Sciences. Must be qualified for high complexity testing
Job Specific Requirements:
• Analysis, scoring, and image acquisition of UroVysion, Prostate and
GYN FISH
assay slides manually and through the use of Bioview automated FISH instrumentation. Operate automated and manual FISH laboratory instrumentation, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair procedures as required. Must have good reasoning ability; be knowledgeable of clinical pathology processes and use organizational skills to meet established turnaround time deadlines. Responsible for the accurate documentation of all testing activities, including but not limited to patient specimens, proficiency testing, quality control results, performance of preventive maintenance/ calibration of instruments, and LIS results entry. Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and must either correct the problem(s) or immediately notify the applicable manager, supervisor, or laboratory director. Responsible for the documentation of corrective actions when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications. Maintains a neat, clean,well-organized work area, including working supplies stocked/stored at each bench Maintains complete and documents records in real time that include but is not limited to, department logs, files, and worksheets. Responsible for training and cross-training other employees. Responsible for performing competency testing when scheduled. Responsible for meeting or exceeding results for key quality indicators. Identifies and implements continuous improvement projects. Participates in the evaluation of new methods and procedures under the direction of the Laboratory Manager. Adapts to changes in processes, accepting approved changes and learning new tasks. Participates in continuing education programs (mandatory and non-mandatory). Performs other related duties as required or assigned. Proficiency Testing Responsible for the performance of proficiency testing samples under the guidelines set forth by the College of American Pathologists and New York State Department of Health. Safety Responsible for compliance with all safety policies of the P4Dx safety program. Follows procedures for biohazardous/radioactive/hazardous waste disposal. Utilizes appropriate infection control practices such as handwashing, proper glove disposal, and proper personal protective equipment and work practice controls. Maintains proper body mechanics and utilizes safe work practices. Regulatory and Compliance Adheres to federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines (e.g. California Labor Laws, OSHA, CLIA 2003, American Disabilities Act, College of American Pathologists, New York State Department of Health, Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA), PLUS Compliance Program, and others, as applicable. Exhibit ethical and professional behavior. Maintains patient confidentiality (HIPAA).
Required Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:
Knowledge of basic computer skills, Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Word. Experience with Laboratory Information Systems.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret such documents as related to the performance and analysis of analytical testing. This could include, but not limited to reagent package inserts and standard operating procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, clients, auditors, and internal customers.
