A Bait and Tackle Shop employee provides expert fishing advice, sells fishing gear, and manages live bait inventory (like minnows, shrimp, or worms). Key duties include operating POS systems, stocking shelves, maintaining live bait tanks, and offering local, up-to-date fishing tips. They must be friendly, knowledgeable about local species, and comfortable handling live bait.
Key Responsibilities Customer Service:
Assisting anglers with tackle selection and providing advice on local fishing conditions and hotspots.
Live Bait Management:
Caring for, feeding, and preparing live bait (e.g., cleaning tanks, bagging worms/shrimp).
Retail Operations:
Processing sales transactions, restocking inventory, and maintaining a clean, organized shop.
Product Knowledge:
Educating customers on various fishing techniques, lures, and rod/reel setups.
Required Skills and Physical Abilities Knowledge:
Strong understanding of local fishing, gear, and regulations.
Physical:
Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects (up to ), and handle live bait.
Technical:
Familiarity with Point of Sale (POS) systems.
Communication:
Effective interpersonal skills to engage with customers and team members. Working Conditions This role often requires working weekends, early mornings, and holidays to align with fishing schedules. The environment can be fast-paced and, at times, dirty or wet, particularly when maintaining bait tanks
