Dairy Herdsman

Hornstra farm, a 4th and 5th generation family-owned and operated milk bottling and homedelivery business, based in Norwell and Whitman, Massachusetts. We currently seek a self-motivated individual willing to learn to join our animal husbandry team at the Whitman Massachusetts location. We are growing a herd of registered Holsteins and Guernsey. As the assistant herdsman duties would include milking, feeding, cleaning, herd work and general maintenance. Both farms are public facing, hence a focus on presentation and cleanliness is a must. The ideal candidate would have experience with both dairy cows and public education on welfare practices and general knowledge of dairy cattle. Considering both the team and public, this person should have a collaborative spirit at ease with and respectful of diversity. Candidates should be able to lift 50lbs, be willing to work mornings and some weekends, and have dairy experience. Hourly rate 20-25 dollars an hour, on site housing and benefit package based on experience.
