Job Description
About the Role At Baywater Shellfish, our team plays a critical role in cultivating high-quality oysters, clams, and geoduck. As a Shellfish Farm Hand, you'll support daily farm operations—from harvesting and planting to maintaining gear and shellfish beds. This is a hands-on, physically demanding role in an outdoor marine environment. We're looking for dependable, team-oriented individuals who take pride in their work, communicate effectively, and prioritize safety. Key Responsibilities Harvest oysters, clams, and geoduck Plant and transplant shellfish across shellfish beds Handle shellfish bags and secure them to grow lines Install, remove, and maintain farm gear Maintain clean, organized beaches and work areas Operate safely around boats, equipment, and gear Support additional farm operations as directed by crew supervisors Physical Requirements This role requires strong physical endurance. Team members must be able to: Lift 50 lbs regularly (up to 125 lbs occasionally) Drag up to 150 lbs when required Work 6-8 hour shifts on uneven terrain Bend, kneel, squat, and perform repetitive movements Maintain balance on boats and wet/uneven surfaces Work outdoors in all weather conditions Occasionally wade in water up to knee height Swim if necessary for safety Work Environment Outdoor, marine-based setting on the Hood Canal Exposure to wet, cold, hot, and windy conditions Work aligned with tide schedules , which may vary hours Collaborative, team-based environment Schedule 7-8 hour day shifts Monday-Friday, with occasional weekends Schedule varies based on tides, weather, and farm needs Requirements Valid driver's license Reliable transportation to the worksite Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions Ability to communicate effectively in English for safety Preferred Experience 1+ year of farming, aquaculture, or outdoor manual labor experience Employment Expectations Complete safety orientation before starting Follow all safety procedures and wear protective gear Work within a buddy system Maintain respectful conduct in shoreline communities Keep work areas clean and remove debris Submit accurate time sheets bi-monthly Provide personal rain gear and boots Equal Opportunity Employer Baywater Shellfish is committed to building an inclusive workplace.
