Agency Dept of Agriculture , Consumer Services Division North Carolina Forest Service Job Classification Title Forestry Technician I (S) Position Number 60032229 Grade NC07 About Us The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services provides services that promote and improve agriculture, agribusiness, and forests; protect consumers and businesses; and conserve farmland and natural resources for the prosperity of all North Carolinians. The Department employs approximately 2,000 employees. Description of Work •This is a readvertisement. The North Carolina Forest Service (NCFS) is designated as an emergency response Division and a team of professionals who provide forest protection, resource management and environmental education to the residents and landowners of NC through a variety of programs. The NCFS provides services to the 100 counties in NC. The
B.R.I.D.G.E.
(Building, Rehabilitating, Instructing, Developing, Growing, Employing) Program is a cooperative effort between the NC Forest Service and NC Department of Public Safety. The primary goal of the program is to provide well-trained and equipped forest firefighting crews ready at a moment's notice. The Project leader is responsible for safety, security, and training of young offenders (age ranges 18-36). The employee will provide training in a variety of forestry and community-based work projects, such as fire control, forest management, trail construction, nursery work, variety of vocational projects and emergency situations. Duties are carried out in a variety of conditions and on a variety of state, federal, private, and public lands with an area of responsibility within the 32 counties of Western NC. Work hours are typically 8-5 Monday - Friday. Evening, holiday and/or weekend work is required during response to wildland fires and other all-hazard responses. Overnight travel may be required for training and other work. Official NCFS uniforms and vehicle are provided for official work use. Residency requirements will be discussed during time of interview.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Recruitment Range:
$37,377 - $65,408 Knowledge of fire control and/or firefighting techniques, or firefighting equipment, or prescribed burning. Knowledge or experience in a vocational skill, such as carpentry, painting, masonry, plumbing, or mechanical systems. Associate's degree in forest management or an environmental or natural science curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related experience in providing forestry services; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification:
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license required within 90 days of hire.
