GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
: Under general supervision of the Natural Resources Manager, performs daily operations and maintenance activities of natural resources within one or more parks. Responsible for cultivating organic vegetables, herbs, and flowers in the community garden and Farm Park site; organic pest and disease management; general upkeep and maintenance of the grounds and structures. Also, engages in urban forestry maintenance focused on woodland, wetland, and public space resources and other public spaces.

Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
: Oversees and performs general maintenance activities of the Farm Park; coordinates with other City personnel regarding contracted services, providing instructions to contracted personnel as needed; performs routine maintenance checks of farm grounds and structures, and reports repair needs outside the scope of agricultural activities to responsible area. Using organic practices, manages the entire process of growing crops in the community garden and designated field sites from seed to distribution, including seed starting/transplanting, soil cultivation, harvesting, composting, and pest and disease management. Prepares and implements an annual organic growing plan that produces high quality natural farm produce for community garden members and donations. Equitably distributes farm produce among garden members and to the public. Uses common garden tools and machinery to perform field activities, including bed preparation, seeding, weeding, watering, pruning, harvesting and landscaping. Determines types of crops to be grown according to growing conditions, resources, and garden members' desires. Engages in urban forestry maintenance focused on woodland, wetland, and public space resources and other public spaces. Coordinates and oversees the work of volunteers and seasonal staff; recruits, instructs and engages volunteers in basic garden tasks. Provides leadership and direction to the garden association membership. Monitors and controls resources; purchases all materials for garden and site maintenance; maintains inventory of tools, supplies and equipment; provides budget requests/cost estimates for annual budget preparation. Provides and assists with educational programming activities and events on site; develops programming and provides instruction on sustainable gardening methods and techniques. Encourages community engagement by continually showing enthusiasm for the Farm Park; interacting with on-site visitors; working with Marketing to timely publicize activities and events; and providing site tours and information regarding farm operations, projects and rentals as needed. Constructs, installs and maintains watering systems where needed. Performs animal caretaking duties, such as watering, feeding and cleaning of living quarters. Maintains operational records, prepares regular activity reports and develops annual growing plans/schedules for management review and approval. Ensures that all farm activities adhere to safety regulations and standards; assists in the development and implementation of a comprehensive safety and risk management plan for the farm. Supplements contracted landscaping services on site by controlling weeds, mowing, edging, and blowing grounds, to maintain a clean and aesthetically appealing site; notifies appropriate personnel regarding any problems concerning contracted services. Develops and implements work plans for the various areas under range of responsibility.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
: Knowledge of organic growing practices and soil and compost management techniques Knowledge of integrated pest management systems Knowledge of safety procedures and practices required on a farm Working knowledge of watering systems for gardens and ability to install and perform minor repairs General understanding and ability to apply Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage with the public including children and seniors Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing Self-directed and ability to work independently Ability to care for and handle farm animals Ability to safely operate and perform general maintenance of farm tools and basic machinery, such as tractor and tiller. Ability to perform CPR and provide advanced first aid care Physical ability to perform essential job duties, including ability to perform manual labor and lift up to 50lbs. Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
: Associate's degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, or related field and at least three (3) years experience working in a community garden or urban farm using organic methods to plant and maintain gardens; or any combination of education, training, and experience providing the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform essential job functions.
WORKING CONDITIONS
: Duties are performed outdoors in heat and cold. May be exposed to stinging insects and other pests. Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, bend, carry, dig, lift, push and pull. Work schedule may include weekends and evenings to work after hour events.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
