POSITION:
Forestry Technician I (3 positions)
SALARY:
$20.34 to $22.94, per hour
DOE REPORTS TO
OND District Officer
LOCATION
OND Forestry, Nespelem, WA Basic Functions:
This is a Non-Exempt position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Training:
Requires a High school diploma or equivalent, with some course work in mathematics and science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc). A strong math and science background is highly recommended Requires three (3) seasons of experience and satisfactory performance (documented by performance appraisals) at the Forestry Aide level (not including training Certification at the advanced firefighter or Squad Boss. Documentation will be required to verify experience. OR A Forestry Technician degree or a two-year Natural Resource Management degree from an accredited college or institution. Possession of, or the ability to obtain prior to hire , a valid Washington State Driver's License. In addition, employee must be insurable under the Tribe's licensing requirements. Will complete an aptitude test (such as Velpar or pre-college) to determine acceptability or suitability for position. If assigned to Forest Development, must possess and maintain a Public Pesticide Applicator's License.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with forest environments. Knowledge in the use of tools and equipment specific to forestry operations. Knowledge of forest fire suppression techniques, up to what would be expected of some one performing at the advanced firefighter or squad boss level. Ability to identify all local species of trees. Ability to conduct various forest surveys. Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical tasks in the outside environment, under all types of weather and terrain conditions. Ability to make mathematical computations with speed and accuracy. Ability to keep routine written records, with respect to contract files (completion reports, logging progress reports, etc). Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and the ability to applied guidelines to varied and specific situations. Ability to work flexible hours and overtime, as needed to meet work assignments. Skill in the use of various manual and power tools and equipment used in forestry operations. Familiarity and working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, data base software.

If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver's license and be eligible for the Tribes' Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
