Job Description

Position Overview The Forester I is a hands-on field leader responsible for executing forest management projects safely, efficiently, and professionally. This role focuses on field production, crew supervision, and technical forestry implementation. You will lead crews in the field while developing your capacity to manage projects and client relationships independently. This is a physically demanding outdoor position with seasonal intensity Key Responsibilities Implement forest management plans based on inventory data and client objectives Lead and oversee timber sales, Timber Stand Improvement (TSI), invasive species control, reforestation, prescribed burns, and habitat improvement Lead by example, supervise, and train 1 - 4 forestry technicians and seasonal employees Mark timber according to prescriptions. Use GIS, mapping tools for planning, navigation, and maintain accurate reporting Ensure compliance with state and federal forestry and environmental regulations Manage herbicide applications and ensure herbicide compliance and safe handling Coordinate day-to-day logistics in the field Prepare reports, client updates, and maintain accurate records Finish jobs on schedule and at or under budgeted hours Preferred Qualifications B.S. in Forestry, Natural Resources, or related field (or equivalent experience) 1-4 years of professional field forestry experience Srong knowledge of Indiana hardwood silviculture practices and invasive species Certified pesticide applicator license (CAT 2) or ability to obtain within 30 days Proficiency with QGIS, Avanza Maps, GPS units, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Suite Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently in rugged terrain and variable weather
