Salary:
$6,735.00- $9,065.
Responsibilities include:
coordinating and communicating with the Unit staff, District Manager and State Lands Assistant that implement the various programs; coordinating and communicating with the region biologist, geologist and hydrologist that provide technical assistance and recommendations for the program; representing the Department's interests to private operators, business, governmental officials, and the public where there are complex, sensitive issues, providing input and recommending actions; and is responsible for the direct supervision of 4 professional staff. In addition, this position is accountable for 2 second-line supervision of staff. This position is also responsible for managing and achieving the timber sales volume deliverable in SPS Region and ensuring the quarterly targets are achieved for the timber sales volume.Duties Responsibilities:
Plan, lead, organize and manage the workload performed by staff in the product sales section to ensure all deliverables are met, while being respectful of the environmental, economic, and social authorizing environments in which we operate. Ensure all activities are compliant with all laws and regulations and all agency policies, procedures, and guidelines. Ensure staff resource allocations are appropriately managed as budgeted and to accomplish deliverables and assignments. Key deliverables are processing the district timber sales packets and achieving region quarterly volume targets as timber sales volume is delivered by the Districts. Work with Districts and Division staff to schedule and coordinate timber sales to achieve quarterly volume and value target deliverables. Work with Districts and Division staff to achieve our overall Region volume deliverable- both for trust distribution and overall volume.
Qualifications Required Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in forestry or a related natural sciences field, and 5 years of relevant experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Knowledge of forest management objectives, timber management planning and silvicultural principles. Knowledge of Washington SEPA process, Forest Practices rules, laws and practices and associated agency policies. Knowledge of logging and forest road construction practices and technology.Required Competencies:
Ability to develop programs, timelines, and track accomplishments. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to clearly articulate expectations, develop and mentor staff, and ensure accountability. This position works in the office and occasional field visits. Position will occasionally drive on remote forest roads, traversing adverse terrain, weather, and active equipment on timber harvest operations. Occasional travel to Olympia and statewide happens several times a year. A current valid driver's license and two years of driving experience. Additionally, DNR requires state drivers to possess a license that is not suspended, revoked, or restricted (for example, Occupational/Restricted Driver Licenses or requiring ignition interlock devices). This position requires driving as an essential function. Finalists and/or interview candidates will be asked to provide a driving record from all states in which they have held a license during the past three years.Desired Qualifications:
Current knowledge of forest practice statutes, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, agency practices and general forest management theory (such as forest fire prevention and suppression techniques, forest health Issues, silviculture; logging and forest road construction equipment and use: hazardous fuels reduction techniques, and public relations). Knowledge of agency business practices, particularly related to forest practices. Knowledge of agency policies, practices and procedures. Experience making public presentations.
