Position Overview The Jayhawk Debate Institute is a summer workshop to prepare high school students for policy debate on the 2025-26 National Speech and Debate Association resolution.
Lab Leaders are responsible for direct instruction of students during the camp. Responsibilities include the preparation and supervision of research on the 2025-26 NSDA policy debate resolution, camp wide lectures, day-to-day instruction of campers, judging practice and tournament debates and coordination of research and skill development by an assigned cohort of students. This is a full-time, temporary staff position that begins June 2, 2026, and ends by July 10, 2026. Job Description 100%
- JDI Lab Leaders
Attend all lab meetings with campers.
Create an affirmative, case negative, and assigned core negative positions for campers to use.
Work with students to develop debate skills such as speaking, researching, debate theory and argumentation.
Present assigned lecture and provide supervision during lecture sessions
Escort students to and from campus (by bus or foot).
Judge practice debates and tournament debates.
Participate in all camp activities.
Must be able to listen to and follow directions.
Must be able to take on a position of authority.

- July 10, 2026 Position Requirements A valid driver's license is required for this position Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED
Must be an active member of the NDT/CEDA/High School policy debate community, as evidenced by application materials
Must have extensive policy debate experience at high school and/or college (NDT/CEDA) levels, as evidenced by application materials Preferred Qualifications Previous experience coaching high school or college (NDT/CEDA) policy debate, as evidenced by application materials
Success in debate competition on the college (NDT/CEDA) level, as evidenced by application materials
Previous experience working at a debate camp, as evidenced by work history
