POSITION SUMMARY
The Group Leader is responsible for supervising, implementing and organizing classroom base activities for participants within UAU's school based or community based programs. The Group Leader will encourage, promote and mentor positive physical well-being, social-emotional wellness, intellectual and social growth within a classroom-based setting. The Group Leader will aid and support to the Content Specialist and Instructor under the direction of the Program Director and/or Assistant Program Director. Daily the Group Leader is responsible for actively engaging participants and facilitating activities that promote learning, growth, and enjoyment within a safe and supportive environment
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
(include but are not limited to): Oversees and manages groups of participants, ages 5 to 13, within a classroom setting to ensure a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment. Lead and/or assist in organizing and implementation of curriculum plans. Maintain and report daily accurate attendance records. Assist will the daily participant dismissal and arrival between parental/ guardian and school site staff. Including record keeping and verification of ID and release consent. Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social and emotional development of participants. Model, enforce, teach and develop age appropriate social, physical and emotional behaviors. Employ positive behavior management strategies for disruptive and negative behaviors. Responsible for maintaining a well-organized, clean, safe, and engaging learning environment as per UAU, DYCD and NYC Department of Health regulations and policies. Ensures that all assigned UAU classroom spaces and work areas are properly maintained and meet established programmatic and organizational standards for cleanliness, safety, and presentation. Serves as a positive role model for participants, consistently demonstrating professionalism, respect, and appropriate behavior. Communicate all incident reports promptly and effectively, including but not limited to those involving child endangerment, safety threats, violations, or potential hazards, in accordance with organizational policies and procedures. Abide by all compliance and safety protocols as outlined by the NYC Department of Health, NYC Department of Education, OCFS, DYCD and UAU. Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
18+ years of age
Required:
High School diploma or GED (Highschool Equivalency Diploma)/
Preferred:
Associate Degree At least 2 years of direct experience working with children in a classroom setting, between 5 years to 13 years of age At least one year of experience in a classroom, daycare or school based setting/ environment Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based perspective Must be culturally competent - ability to understand, be sensitive to the needs of, communicate with and effectively interact with people across cultures and age ranges Must pass reference checks and background as designated by DOH, DOE, DYCD and UAU Strong verbal and written communication skills Strong problem solving and mathematical skills Excellent organizational and time management skills Demonstrated ability to conduct and complete work independently Willing to take initiative and be flexible when needed Excels working in a collaborative environment to achieve target objects and outcomes

Involves sitting approximately 30% of the day, walking or standing the remainder. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for at least 20% of the time. May include working prolonged periods of time standing and walking, about 95% of the day. The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
