CAN Automation Engineer

Description Core Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and upgrade internal software tools used for automotive networking projects
• Write and modify code using VBA, C#, and Python
• Understand existing tools, how they were built, and improve or replace them as needed
• Automate manual or outdated processes while preserving existing workflows where appropriate
• Create and maintain tools that support: o CAN tables o Gateway tables o Automotive network data processing
• Deliver desktop-based internal applications, primarily using C# and WPF
• Produce clear documentation for source code and tool usage
• Ensure all developed source code is owned internally (Honda retains ownership)
• Use Git for version control and source management ________________________________________ Technical Focus Areas Automotive Networking
• Strong understanding of CAN networks and automotive CAN
• Familiarity with Ethernet communication on the vehicle bus
• Experience supporting mixed environments (older hardware with newer architectures) Data Formatting & Standards A major challenge is the format used to share vehicle network data:
• Many stakeholders do not code, making Excel a common but insufficient format
• Excel is not ideal for describing detailed CAN or Ethernet communication
• The team is evaluating signal-based formats rather than frame-based formats, such as: o FIBEX o AUTOSAR AUTOSAR-specific expectations:
• Understanding how to describe a CAN network in

AUTOSAR ARXML

• Familiarity with ARXML concepts such as signals, clusters, and PDUs
• No requirement to fully understand ECU-level AUTOSAR descriptions ________________________________________ Tool Development Roadmap
• Existing codebase includes C#
• A key future initiative is developing a tool that can automatically generate gateway tables
• This tool will be driven by a defined set of input rules
• Early phases focus on: o Defining requirements o Determining input formats o Designing the functional behavior of the tool

• 1-5 years of experience (3-5 years preferred)
• Experience developing internal tools rather than customer-facing products
• Background in automotive networking and internal application development
• Experience with: o C# o WPF desktop applications o GUI-based tools or advanced Excel macros
• Comfortable working independently and does not need to work closely with other coders
• Curious and willing to dig into existing tools to understand how they work
• Knowledge of CAN, Ethernet, and automotive communication standards Experience Level Intermediate Level Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of East Liberty, OH.

Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
