Job Summary:
The Supervisor of Grounds and Landscaping is responsible for overseeing the work of the landscaping, irrigation, and painting crews as they care for all the sites in Peoria Unified School District. The role involves creating plans, organizing the work of the teams, and ensuring that all campuses are safe, well maintained, and inviting. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
generally include the following: Organize and supervise the grounds crews and inspect campuses regularly to evaluate the work of the teams and to ensure that fields and grounds meet the District Standard of Care. Interview and recommend grounds applicants. Establish performance measures, goals, objectives and priorities. Evaluate work performance. Provide feedback, direction and technical guidance. Advises personnel of new or revised policies and procedures. Prepare plans and schedules for the care of the fields and share those plans with District staff. Review the work order system regularly to ensure that assigned work orders are evaluated, updated, and completed in a timely manner. Communicate with site administration to ensure the timely dissemination of information. Regularly update all district staff on the status of plans and repairs. Overseas preventative maintenance of landscaping equipment, machinery, and tools. Oversee design, installation and maintenance on grounds, landscapes, playgrounds and irrigation systems. Coordinate the work of vendors, government agencies, and insurance agencies as they work on the campuses. Supervises the application of pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers in compliance with applicable codes and regulations. Prepare invoices. Maintains records and files of equipment, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers and other commodities utilized. Orders and maintains inventory stocks of equipment, supplies, parts and materials. Provides and/or recommends training staff in safety procedures, grounds maintenance and equipment operation. Review and approve time sheets. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances and codes and PUSD policies and procedures. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public and others having business with the school district. Skill in planning, prioritizing, supervising and participating in the landscaping, maintenance, upkeep and repair of public school grounds. Skill in instructing and training workers in performance of landscaping, grounds and irrigation maintenance. Skill in reading, interpreting, understanding and applying relevant Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances and codes and PUSD policies and procedures. Knowledge of the principles of pesticide and herbicide chemical application requirements and practices. Knowledge of the principles of supervision, training and instructional methods. Knowledge of the basic principles of bookkeeping, accounting, record management and inventory control.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Successful leadership experience managing teams is required. Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills are required. Experience and expertise in landscaping are preferred but not required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must hold or obtain a valid IVP fingerprint clearance card. Must be able to pass a background clearance check. Must possess at time of application and must maintain a valid Arizona driver license. May be required to perform maintenance services and repairs while standing, stooping, bending, crawling and working overhead or in trenches. May be exposed to dangerous machinery, potential physical harm, extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, fumes, and infectious diseases. May be required to lift and/or carry heavy, bulky supplies, equipment, tools, parts and materials weighing up to 60 pounds. May be required to operate a variety of power and hand tools, equipment and machinery. May be required to work outside normal working hours. May be required to travel to perform work functions.
