Summary of Position:
The Director of Golf is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day golf operations, golf course maintenance, revenue generation, and sales performance while delivering a guest experience that reflects Arizona Grand Resort & Spa's brand standards. This role provides direct leadership for Golf Pro Shop, Outside Services, the Golf Sales Manager, and the Golf Superintendent, ensuring alignment between course conditions, service execution, tournament and group golf sales, and the resort's expectations for professionalism, hospitality, and quality. The Director must be fully engaged in planning, organizing, budgeting, promoting, conducting, and scheduling all golf-related activities to maximize revenue, profitability, team performance, and guest satisfaction while upholding the resort's service culture and brand standards.
Essential Functions :
Maintain financial responsibilities including managing the annual golf budget, reviewing monthly P&L reports, monitoring labor costs against budget, and comparing payroll projections to actual results. Direct and oversee Golf Pro Shop, Outside Services, tournament services, desk services, and related functions including Rangers, Starters, and cart operations. Provide direct leadership, coaching, and performance management for the Golf Sales Manager, ensuring achievement of group golf, tournament, and related revenue goals. Manage golf course maintenance to ensure course conditions, agronomy standards, safety practices, and daily operations support guest satisfaction, operational goals, and Arizona Grand Resort & Spa brand standards. Provide direct supervision, leadership, and accountability for the Golf Superintendent, including performance management, goal setting, communication, and alignment with departmental and resort priorities. Partner with the Golf Sales Manager and resort sales teams to develop and execute strategies that increase tournaments, outings, and group golf business while supporting overall resort objectives. Ensuring all golf operations, golf course maintenance activities, team member interactions, and guest touchpoints consistently reflect Arizona Grand Resort & Spa brand standards, service expectations, and professional presentation guidelines. Drive departmental profit, weighted revenues, and service goals through effective planning, execution, and accountability. Review and approve training materials and oversee coaching, mentoring, recognition, and development tools for golf operations and golf course maintenance teams. Lead department goal planning, continuous improvement projects, and recurring training efforts to enhance service, efficiency, and alignment with brand standards. Attend weekly manager meetings, pre-convention meetings, and other leadership meetings, and communicate pertinent information and expectations to staff. Implement new resort procedures and operational initiatives, as necessary. Assure quality service and maintain a Four-Diamond-level guest experience across all golf operations. Manage all expenses and operating costs related to golf operations and golf course maintenance to meet budgeted targets. Oversee and support the selling and execution of group tournaments and instructional golf programs. Support additional resort initiatives and cross-functional efforts, which may include sales blitzes and other resort-supportive functions. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Director of Operations and/or the General Manager.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience:
Previous golf management experience required.
Certificates or Licenses:
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and supervise teams effectively. Strong decision-making skills with the ability to respond promptly and effectively to operational and guest needs. Proficiency in using moderately complex computer systems and troubleshooting software-related issues.
