We are a division of Wildscape Restoration and located in Ventura, California. Urban Greening is a small, local woman-owned environmental consulting and contracting firm. Our work focuses on installation of drought-tolerant gardens, and landscape maintenance/groundskeeping. Wildscape Restoration also does habitat restoration, invasive plant removal, and various public works projects. Urban Greening is currently seeking a Working Landscape Foreman position! We are looking to hire a working Foreman who has a minimum of three (3) years of experience with managing crews, landscaping and irrigation. Education equivalent to a B.S in Horticulture or Agriculture (or equivalent) is preferred. Tasks of a Working Foreman consist of working in the field and overseeing the crew, as well as some office duties such as bid walks, estimating, and proposals. Work may be done independently, but usually as a team. Full job duties are listed below. Public works projects are paid appropriate prevailing wage and fringe benefits. Some projects have strict completion deadlines with liquidated damages if not met. Work is primarily located in Ventura County, Santa Barbara County, and Los Angeles County. The busy season is generally the fall through the spring. Work is highly dependent on weather conditions. Overnight travel may be required for up to 5 weekdays (maximum) at a time, depending on the project. Applicant must be in good physical condition with stamina for outdoor work.
Skills needed include:
attention to detail, good management practices, patience for doing repetitive tasks, and safety-conscious. Applicants must be able to arrive to work sites on time (early mornings), pass security clearance for CHP and military base groundskeeping projects, and maintain an acceptable DMV record as well as a current driver license and insurance. Job Duties as a Working Foreman The duties of a Working Foreman at Wildscape include: Establish daily priorities and assign work to crew members and individuals. Manage productivity and quality of workmanship each day. Ensure all tools and equipment needed are taken to the project site and returned to the office at the end of each day, clean and in working condition. Supervise and manage the crew, while working alongside the crew. Verify the crew is working within the project boundaries. Be able to understand and use GPS systems and software. Understand the contract obligations in the Scope of Work for each project. Record Daily Field Notes and Herbicide Usage. Submit the forms to the office after each day at a project site. Record the crew's working hours on a time sheet for each project. Submit the time sheets to the office after each week at a project site. Prepare specific project training and hold project tailgate meeting per project, as needed. Assist office staff with cost estimates and scopes of work for maintenance contracts. During the off-season or bad weather days - work on smaller scale projects and in the office. Maintains project tasks at or under project budget. Orders materials, supplies, and equipment for projects following company policy. Reports any injury or illness immediately to the Project Manager and the Human Resources Department. Investigate and report any project or crew problems to the Project Managers or the Human Resources Department. Have proper communication with all clients, and resolves and client complaints that could occur. The Working Foreman will also be expected to work alongside the crew.
Some working tasks may include:
Manual control of weeds such as hand removal, herbicide application, or with tools such as chainsaws and weed whackers Installation/maintenance of new plants Installation/maintenance of irrigation Installation/maintenance of erosion control Landscape maintenance such as weeding, pruning, mowing or planting Physical conditions will be difficult some days: you will be required to hike long distances, hike over steep slopes with heavy equipment, work on hot or cold days, and/or in remote job sites with limited access to services. Safety training and personal protective equipment is provided before exposure to workplace hazards, including herbicides and powered equipment. Some project sites may have exposure to natural hazards, such as snakes or poison oak.
Desired Experience:
Experience with various hand/power tools (weed whacker, leaf blower, chainsaw, lawnmower) Operation of heavy equipment (skid-steer/track-steer), trencher, stump grinder Experience with tree removal and trimming Planting container plants and/or seeds Irrigation design and knowledge Installation and/or maintenance of irrigation systems (sprinkler, micro-emitters, and drip) Identification of soils, amendments, fertilizer components, appropriate uses Herbicide application methods - experience with backpack sprayers/spray rigs, mixing and loading, and/or general herbicide knowledge QAL/QAC highly desired. Must currently possess or will need to obtain QAL. Drive large vehicles (dump truck, water truck, truck with trailer) Identification of native California and/or drought-tolerant plants (common names and/or scientific names) Identification of non-native weeds (common names and/or scientific names) Certification and/or knowledge in Erosion Control, Stormwater Pollution Prevention, or Licensed Arborist Strong organizational skills Computer skills with experience in MS Office applications are required If you have other experience you think would be useful to Urban Greening or Wildscape, include it when you apply!
