Nestled on expansive grounds with a variety of recreational facilities, including two golf courses, the community fosters an environment where residents can enjoy a wide array of activities, sports, and social opportunities. Overview The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the overall maintenance, conditioning, and presentation of a 27-hole golf course facility, including all golf course playing surfaces, practice areas, landscaped grounds, irrigation systems, lakes, and related infrastructure. The Superintendent plans, directs, and supervises all golf course maintenance operations to provide exceptional playing conditions while maintaining fiscal responsibility, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance. They are also responsible for overall maintenance of a 3-green lawn bowling facility. This position reports directly to the Head Golf Pro or Golf Director and supervises all golf course and bowling greens maintenance personnel. It is a Full Time Exempt position with full RWC benefits.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Golf Course + Lawn Bowling Green Maintenance Develop and implement comprehensive agronomic programs for the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, practice facilities, and landscaped areas. Establish and maintain high-quality playing conditions consistent with the facility's goals and standards. Monitor turf health and implement appropriate fertility, cultural, and pest management programs. Schedule and oversee mowing, cultivation, topdressing, aerification, overseeding, and other turf management practices. Coordinate maintenance activities to minimize disruption to golf operations and member or guest play. Irrigation and Water Management Manage and maintain the golf course irrigation system, including pumps, controllers, central control systems, valves, and associated infrastructure. Develop irrigation schedules that promote turf health while maximizing water-use efficiency. Monitor water consumption and ensure compliance with applicable water regulations and conservation requirements. Coordinate repairs, upgrades, and capital improvements related to irrigation systems. Personnel Management Recruit, train, supervise, evaluate, and develop maintenance staff. Prepare work schedules and assign daily tasks. Promote a positive, safe, and productive work environment. Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and professional development opportunities. Ensure compliance with all employment policies and procedures. Equipment and Facilities Oversee the maintenance and utilization of golf course maintenance equipment and vehicles. Coordinate with Vehicle Maintenance department regarding preventative maintenance and repairs. Ensure maintenance facilities, storage areas, and chemical handling areas are properly maintained and compliant with applicable regulations. Budgeting and Administration Prepare and manage annual operating and capital budgets. Monitor expenditures and control costs while maintaining established quality standards. Develop specifications and recommendations for capital projects, equipment purchases, and course improvements. Maintain accurate records related to labor, materials, chemical applications, water use, and equipment operations. Prepare reports and presentations for management, committees, and governing boards as requested. Environmental and Regulatory Compliance Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations regarding pesticide use, worker safety, water management, and environmental protection. Maintain required licenses, permits, and certifications. Implement environmentally responsible practices and sustainability initiatives. Maintain chemical inventories and application records in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Position Requirements:
Extensive knowledge of turfgrass management principles and practices. Knowledge of irrigation systems, water management, and drainage systems. Knowledge of pesticide application, fertilization, and integrated pest management. Ability to develop and manage budgets. Strong planning, organizational, and project management abilities. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with golf course management software and irrigation control systems. Experience with Rainbird Maxi irrigation control systems is a plus. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as operational needs require. Ability to direct and motivate a diverse staff toward our operating needs and goals in a safe, efficient and effective manner. Ability to speak Spanish desired but not required. Required licenses, certifications and/or education/degrees: Bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Golf Course Superintendent certification through the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA). Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible golf course maintenance experience. Minimum three (3) years of supervisory or management experience. Current California Driver's License Current California "Qualified Applicators Certificate of Pesticides" Ability to obtain a California QAL pesticide license within 6 months of employment.
Additional Requirements:
§ Clean and valid California driver license and satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment; § Ability to meet the Dept. of Homeland Security requirements confirming identity and right to work in the United States is required; § Offer is contingent upon satisfactorily passing a pre-employment background check and drug test; § Previous employment must be verifiable.
Pay:
$140,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
