Job Description
Assistant Superintendent University Park Country Club —
University Park, Florida About Us:
University Park Country Club is a 27-hole semi-private facility located in the Sarasota, Florida area. The club has a strong reputation for conditioning, active membership expectations, and continuous property improvements. We operate in a fast-paced environment where details matter, and standards are visible every day. This is not a low-pressure maintenance position. We are looking for someone who wants to become a Superintendent — and is willing to work and learn at that level now.The Opportunity:
We are seeking an Assistant Superintendent who wants responsibility, not just tasks. You will be directly involved in decision-making, crew leadership, agronomic execution, irrigation management, and project management across all 27 holes. You will not spend your career mowing greens here — you will be expected to think, lead, and solve problems daily. If you prefer "just tell me what to do" positions, this is not the right job. If you want to learn how to run a golf course, it is.What You Will Actually Do:
Run morning operations and crew assignments Make real-time course setup and conditioning decisions Diagnose turf issues and implement corrective action Irrigation scheduling, repair prioritization, and water management Apply fertilizers and pesticides and understand WHY you are applying them Train and hold staff accountable to quality standards Execute projects (drainage, bunker work, landscape renovations, construction) Maintain records and regulatory compliance (BMPs, state regulations) Communicate clearly with management — problems and solutionsMinimum Requirements:
Turf degree or certificate (or equivalent high-level experience) 2+ years on a golf course that maintains daily conditions — not once-a-week conditioning Ability to supervise people and address performance issues Florida pesticide license (or ability to obtain quickly) Working knowledge of irrigation systems Reliability — early mornings, weekends, and holidays are part of the professionPreferred Candidate Traits:
We are intentionally selective.Strong candidates typically:
Care about details most golfers never notice Want accountability and ownership Are calm under pressure and busy days Ask "why" instead of waiting to be told Take pride in visible results Want to be a Superintendent — not just employed at a golf courseCompensation & Growth:
Competitive hourly wage based on ability — not just years worked Benefits package: Medical, Dental, Vision, STD, Free Company-paid life insurance, Voluntary Life Insurance, other additional health benefits, 401(k), and more. Education & professional development supported Direct involvement in management decisions Preparation for a Superintendent positionBenefits:
401(k) Dental insurance Employee assistance program Health insurance Health savings account Life insurance Paid time off Referral programWork Location:
