Job Description
Nature of Work Responsible technical work in enforcing applicable national, state, and local laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations through detailed landscape and irrigation inspections to ensure that the services, terms, and conditions, as outlined in the City of Miami Beach's landscape maintenance or other contracts, are performed in their entirety, and in a timely and efficient manner. Work includes field and office duties. Considerable fieldwork consisting of site visits to works in progress and completed projects to ensure that all proposed and newly installed landscape and irrigation strictly adhere to the City's Landscape and Irrigation Standards and Specifications. Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties Conducts site inspections immediately after routine landscape maintenance services are performed to confirm that the services were performed according to the terms, conditions, and specifications of the landscape maintenance contract documents Reviews landscape and irrigation plans for possible changes needed and makes recommendation to supervisor Prepares reports, records and correspondence concerning inspections and promptly notifies the landscape contractor if any deficiencies are noted Inspects sites for signs of landscape damage, irrigation damage, pest activity, or nutrient deficiencies, and reports them to the contractor for remediation Oversees contracted landscape, irrigation, and other landscape related projects on a daily basis for compliance with applicable laws, codes, ordinances, drawings, specifications, contract documents, and best industry practices Maintains daily log of activities and work accomplished; reviews invoices/applications for payment for landscape maintenance services completed Performs related tasks as required Minimum Requirements College level courses in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Forestry, Plant Science, or related field Five (5) years of professional experience in the landscaping industry, of which, at least (2) two years must be in the role of an account manager, operations manager, landscape inspector, or any other applicable administrative position requiring work conditions independent of daily landscape work crews. If applicant does not have college level courses, the City of Miami Beach will accept the current possession of at least two (2) of any of the following landscape certifications as equivalent to college level courses: Certified Landscape Inspector from the
LIAF, ISA
Certified Arborist, ASHS Certified Horticulturist, any of the FNGLA certifications, or a Pest Control License in a landscape category from the State of Florida. Copies of all college level courses and certifications will be given by the applicant to the City by the start of the interview for verification. Failure to provide transcripts or certification letters will result in the termination of the interview process. Certified as a Landscape Inspector with the LIAF, or have the ability to obtain the certification within 12 months of being hired Possess a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record and must maintain it throughout employment without any restrictions affecting job performance For all positions: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, coworkers, the press the general public and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation, gender identity or sexual orientation. Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all city ethics and conflicts of interest policies. Strong understanding of ethical behavior is required. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance. Performs related work as required. Reports to work as directed during an emergency as an essential employee of the City of Miami Beach. For all technical, professional, supervisory and Managerial positions: Ability to develop innovative and creative solutions to issues consistent with the City's strategic plan.
