Job Description

General Summary:
Under direction of District Manager, the District Foreman coordinates, organizes, assigns and supervises work of employees in grounds, facility and equipment maintenance functions. Responsible for quality assurance of work completed and training of staff.
Education Required:
H. S. diploma is required.
Preferred:
Vo-tech school diploma or associate's degree in related field.
Preferred Area of Study:
Horticulture, Agriculture, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, Agronomy, Park Operations, Sports Turf Management, or related field. Certification(s)
Required:
Must be able to obtain chemical license within 6-12 months of hire.
Preferred:
Certified Playground Safety Inspector CPSI or Class 3 Turf and Ornamental Pesticide Applicator's license. License(s)
Required:
Valid LA driver's license.
Preferred:
Valid Class D or above Commercial driver's license.
Years Relevant Work Experience:
Two (2) years related supervisory experience and two (2) years experience in the construction, horticulture, agronomy, forestry, or grounds & building maintenance field. Equivalent certification, education, and experience will be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance practices and operations Knowledge of proper mixing & application of chemical agents including fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides Mechanical aptitude Skill in the use of modern equipment including tractor, bulldozer, dump truck, bobcat, and front-end loader Ability to prioritize, schedule and inspect work and organize other workers Ability to communicate orally and in writing Ability to work independently Ability to train and develop staff on technical tasks Basic computer software knowledge Ability to read and write the English language Must have a positive attitude with the willingness and desire to learn new skills Ability to drive a BREC Vehicle to perform essential functions of the job Ability to adjust to changing work demands, procedures, technology, and/or priorities Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public
Essential Functions and Duties:
Inspects facilities daily to ensure quality and safety standards are met. Trains and develops staff on daily tasks. Plans, assigns, and supervises daily work within a designated district. Performs physical work on park grounds and park features, including aquatic features, as needed. Adjusts personnel and material needs as required. Communicates with and inspects the work of third party vendors for contract services. Review and assign workorders Responds to inspection needs and special events within the district. Recommends equipment and personnel needs to the District Manager. Assists District Manager with equipment and material inventory control Obtains quotes and procures materials and supplies. Communicates orally and in writing with patrons and employees of needed information. Works with District Manager to handle employee relations, scheduling, work inspection, organization, and inventory Assumes the role of District Manager in his/her absence. Keeps accurate records of daily activities and expenses. Secondary Job Duties Works with District Manager to evaluate employee performance. Assists District Manager with administrative and logistical needs. Other duties as assigned. Hours Worked:
As scheduled, generally 40 hours per week; lunch break daily; overtime as required. Some weekend and after-hours work required.
