Job Description
The Duxbury Yacht Club is seeking a full-time, year round Courts & Grounds Supervisor. The Courts & Grounds Supervisor is responsible for the overall condition of our racquets courts and surrounding grounds on the DYC West Campus. This individual works directly with the Director of Racquets and Courts Committee to ensure the racquets facilities are maintained to a standard consistent with member expectations at a private club. We are seeking a proactive, hands‑on Courts & Grounds Supervisor who takes ownership of court playability, appearance, and safety across racquets facilities. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills with demonstrated experience hiring and managing staff to deliver consistent results. This person is a self-starter who understands the private club environment, coordinates with vendors, and leads daily operational and maintenance tasks for clay tennis, pickleball and platform tennis courts. Position Overview Roles and responsibilities of the Courts & Grounds Supervisor and staff include but are not limited to: Oversee daily care, maintenance, and playability of 9 clay tennis courts, 4 pickleball courts, and 4 platform tennis courts. Coordinate spring clay tennis court opening with our vendor. Willing and eager to learn clay court management best practices. Ensure grounds surrounding the courts are kept in excellent condition. Monitor weather and irrigation; adjust irrigation as needed to protect courts and maximize availability for play. Inspect courts after storms and show up early when necessary to make courts playable. Maintain inventory of court equipment and supplies (nets, straps, replacement parts, tools); order replacements proactively. Maintain and troubleshoot court lighting, heaters and other equipment; liaise with paddle/platform vendor to coordinate capital projects, heater service, and lighting repairs. Manage and hire seasonal and part‑time staff to guarantee full seasonal coverage; create daily task lists and assign duties. Manage staff budget, track labor hours, and assist with scheduling and payroll documentation as required. Train staff in proper court maintenance procedures, safety protocols and private club standards. Communicate regularly with Director of Racquets and Courts Committee Chair on court conditions, staffing, budget, and capital needs. Willingness to coordinate/work with West Campus Manager and Golf Course Superintendent during shoulder seasons and other court projects. Perform spring and fall cleanup work and and prepare courts for opening/closing. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, product usage, and inventory. Follow all safety protocols and club policies. Participate in regular meetings with Director of Racquets and Chair of Courts Committee as requested. Qualifications Minimum of 2-5 years in a similar grounds/facility maintenance position. Proven experience in court maintenance, groundskeeping, or related field; experience with clay court maintenance strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to supervise/hire seasonal staff and manage day‑to‑day operations. Knowledge of irrigation systems and basic troubleshooting. Experience coordinating with vendors on various projects including irrigation, lighting, plumbing, electrical and heating systems. Comfortable using technology (online court reservation system, email, basic troubleshooting). Strong communication skills; professional and comfortable working in a private club environment. Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine equipment maintenance. Valid driver's license. Physical demands & work environment Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions (temperature extremes, precipitation). Ability to lift and carry equipment and supplies (frequently up to 50 lbs). Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, and perform physical labor for extended periods. Flexible to respond early or outside regular hours in event of severe weather or emergencies. Compensation & benefits Competitive salary commensurate with experience. Seasonal overtime expectations for coverage periods as required by club policy. Benefits per club policy (health, dental, PTO, club privileges and more). The Duxbury Yacht Club is a private club located in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Situated on Boston's South Shore, Duxbury Yacht Club was founded in 1875 and is one of the oldest yacht clubs in the United States. It is a vibrant, historic, and family oriented club in the seaside community of Duxbury, about halfway between Boston and Cape Cod. In addition to our active golf, pool, and waterfront areas, our Racquets campus includes 9 clay tennis courts, 4 platform tennis courts, and 4 pickleball courts. Under the supervision of our Director of Racquets, we offer year round social and competitive programming for members of all ages.
