POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Grounds/Custodial Supervisor is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment for Zoo & Aquarium guests. Duties will include, but are not limited to, working independently while sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, cleaning surfaces with disinfectant, and emptying trash and recycling cans. Additionally, under direction, the Grounds/Custodial Supervisor oversees the daily routines for all aspects of the Grounds/Custodial Staff, within an assigned area. This is a hands-on, detail-oriented position that requires both leadership abilities and a team focused mindset. This position will guide their team through daily work activities, including events, while monitoring employee performance to ensure maximum productivity.
POSITION DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Duties Percentage Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assisting with the assignment of daily tasks, routines, event setup and tear down Ensuring cleanliness and inspection of buildings, restrooms, administrative areas, outside eating areas, and event spaces Performing litter control in all areas of the Zoo & Aquarium including, but not limited to, parking lots, walking paths and grassy areas Emptying trash receptacles and recycling Ensuring all supply areas are fully stocked and well maintained. Setting up, cleaning, monitoring, and tearing down special events. Assisting with guests' needs. Safely operating equipment, such as trashpactors, floor scrubbers, pressure washers, leaf blowers, snow blowers, and vehicles. 70% Supervising Grounds/Custodial staff, including, but not limited to, supporting the hiring, scheduling, training, evaluation, and coaching processes. 20% Assisting with the ordering and procurement of supplies. 5% Performs snow removal, as necessary. 5% •This position may at times be requested to perform other duties or special projects as assigned, which are in the best interest of the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium. •All employees must be able to perform the essential functions of this position satisfactorily and, upon request, reasonable amodations will be made to enable employees with disabilities to perform the essential functions of their job, absent undue hardship.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & FORMAL
TRAINING
High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be 18 years of age or older
EXPERIENCE
1 year of janitorial/custodial experience desired. Prior supervisory experience desired. Strongputer skills, including Microsoft Office, preferred. Strong verbal and writtenmunication skills.
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Must have valid driver's license. Must be able to make immediate decisions pertaining to safety Can move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Assistance depending upon task or role. Must be able to constantly move and position oneself toplete work for extended periods of time. Comfortable with possible exposure to bodily fluids, including blood, vomit, urine, etc. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and evening hours, in all weather extremes. Must pass a background and drug screening.
