POSITION SUMMARY
The Turf Manager works in all areas of maintenance operations, especially athletic fields. This position will generally involve the performance of manual tasks requiring skilled and semi-skilled work or special knowledge acquired through on-the-job training or experience. The Turf Manager will supervise and assist co-workers in completing various tasks and day-to-day maintenance duties as required.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING
Assist in hiring, training, scheduling, etc. Facility Maintenance Team Members Assign, oversee, and assist seasonal team members in the completion of maintenance tasks Manage and supervise team members and contractors in the performance of turf field maintenance activities, including cultural practices, irrigation, integrated pest management, and completion of renovation projects Mow, trim, edge, sod, aerate and irrigate athletic fields and general ground areas of the park using different pieces of grounds maintenance equipment Operate, maintain, and repair irrigation system Oversee and manage all pesticide applications Oversee all field-related projects including but not limited to sod replacements, new field installations, aerification, top dressing, etc. Prepare all playing surfaces to meet the unique needs of each tournament group Assist in the training of field team members in proper care and maintenance of athletic fields, including game preparation and logo painting Periodically serve as the division's on-duty representative during times of high-volume field use, such as evenings, weekends, and special events/tournaments Assist in the completion of needed off-season renovation projects on all aspects of athletic field Complete special projects and daily assignments as directed by the General Manager
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree in turf management, related field or equivalent experience is preferred Knowledge/experience maintaining natural grass and synthetic surfaces Knowledge of irrigation repairs and maintenance is a plus Can calibrate and operate a turf spray rig for liquid chemical applications Can calibrate and operate a walk spreader for fertilizer applications Ability to obtain a Pesticide Applicators License within 90 days of hire Available and willing to work long hours and varying shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays Ability to follow and give written and oral instructions Ability to promote a positive self-image and lead by example
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to lift 50 pounds waist high May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time whether indoors or outdoors, and squat, stoop or bend into awkward positions while performing job functions Facility has intermittent noise
