Job Description

Lake Region Golf Club LRGC is an 18-hole golf course nestled between Lake Poinsett and Lake Albert. We are a privately owned and operated club with a strong and supportive membership base. LRGC also hosts a substantial number of tournaments, club sponsored tournaments and events, and greens fee play. Position Overview We are seeking a passionate, high-caliber Golf Course Superintendent with proven expertise in agronomy and leadership. The Superintendent is responsible for the overall operation, maintenance, and management of the golf course, grounds, and related facilities. The expectation is to provide outstanding playing conditions to meet our membership's expectations, drive greens fee play and support both hosted and club sponsored tournaments and events. A detailed list of job functions and responsibilities is included below. This is a full-time, salaried position requiring regular outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including routine early mornings, weekends, and holidays during peak golf season. This position reports directly to the Lake Region Board of Directors Essential Functions & Responsibilities 1.
Turfgrass & Grounds Management Daily Maintenance:
Plan, organize, supervise, and actively participate in the daily maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and native/landscaped areas.
Agronomic Programs:
Develop and execute customized turf management, fertilization, aeration, weed control, and disease management programs to maintain optimal playing conditions.
Landscaping:
Oversee the planting, cultivating, and comprehensive care of course plants, trees, and shrubs.
Event Preparation:
Ensure the course is prepared and highly playable for daily golfers, tournaments, and special events. 2.
Irrigation & Infrastructure Management System Operation:
Monitor, operate, and maintain complex golf course irrigation systems, including wells, pumps, and automated controls, to ensure efficient water distribution.
Water Management:
Schedule precise watering cycles, adjust sprinkler heads for maximum coverage efficiency, and develop water conservation strategies.
Facility Oversight:
Oversee the structural maintenance of course facilities, cart paths, drainage control systems, and related infrastructure. 3.
Personnel Leadership & Training Team Management:
Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate groundskeepers and maintenance staff.
Work Scheduling:
Formulate daily, weekly, and seasonal work plans to optimize labor efficiency. 4.
Financial & Administrative Management Budgeting:
Prepare, administer, and manage the annual golf course maintenance budget, tracking expenses efficiently.
Asset Management:
Recommend equipment replacement schedules, manage vendor/contractor relationships for capital projects, and order supplies and chemicals as needed. 5.
Environmental Stewardship & Safety IPM Strategies:
Implement integrated pest management (IPM) strategies and conduct regular course inspections to prevent disease outbreaks.
Regulatory Compliance:
Direct all fertilizer, pesticide, herbicide, and pest control applications in compliance with local and state regulations.
Required Skills & Competencies Technical Mastery:
Proficiency in turfgrass management and maintenance practices.
Mechanical Aptitude:
Strong diagnostic and operational knowledge of irrigation infrastructure, automated systems, and heavy groundskeeping equipment.
Leadership:
Proven ability to manage, motivate, and direct a maintenance team under demanding physical conditions.
Organization & Judgment:
Strong planning, prioritization, and analytical skills.
Communication:
Professional, clear communication style when interacting with staff, management/leadership, and players or the public.
Qualifications & Experience Minimum Qualifications:
Experience:
2+ years of golf course groundskeeping and maintenance experience.
Licensing:
Valid Driver's License, and a valid State Pesticide Applicator's License (or the explicit ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe upon hire).
Physical Demands:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; capacity for prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and operating specialized machinery.
Availability:
Ability to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, weekends, holidays, extended hours during peak golf season, and limited hours during the offseason.
Preferred Qualifications:
Leadership History:
Prior experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or an Assistant Superintendent.
Education:
Associate degree, Bachelor's degree, or formal certification in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a closely related field.
Pay:
$50,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
