•Under general supervision of the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor (EDU) and/or a Lead Grounds Maintenance Worker (EDU), performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work associated with maintaining the Education Campus grounds and athletic fields of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. This job class is treated as FLSA non-exempt and is subject to working on-call and weekend hours.
Distinguishing Features:
The Grounds Maintenance Worker II (Edu) is distinguished from the entry level Grounds Maintenance worker I (Edu) position by possessing a higher level of experience and expertise of the grounds maintenance field as well as the ability to provide maintenance activities for the athletic fields within the Education Campus. This position will work in and around Education facilities during regular school hours and is therefore required to pass an extensive background and fingerprint clearance.
Essential Functions:

Performs a variety of landscape maintenance work, including mowing grass, trimming shrubs and trees, preparing flower beds for planting and planting flowers, applying fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides, removing weeds, debris, and dead plants, and ensuring watering schedule is maintained. 2. Installs and maintains irrigation systems and drip lines for campus grounds and athletic fields. Inspects, repairs, and replaces items associated with the irrigation system on a regular basis to ensure ample water is supplied to all grass and plants. 3. Ensures campus grounds are kept free from trash and debris and trash cans outside of the buildings are emptied on a regular basis. Cleans and removes weeds and debris from all campus hardscape areas including sidewalks, gathering areas, parking lots, etc. 4. Performs regular inspections on tables, benches, fencing, bleachers, etc. Cleans, repairs, replaces work or damaged items as required. 5. Maintains and prepares the athletic fields at the Education Campus for practices and sporting events in accordance with Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) standards. Prepares grounds and athletic fields for use during special events. 6. Performs other job-related duties as assigned to maintain and enhance departmental operations.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:
Knowledge of general grounds and athletic fields maintenance principles, practices, and techniques, including those used in desert areas. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of equipment used in general grounds and athletic fields maintenance activities. Knowledge of fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and other chemicals used in grounds and athletic fields maintenance, including the hazards and safety precautions associated with their use. Knowledge of irrigation systems and controls (pumps, piping, heads, computer controls, timers, etc.). Knowledge of sports field markings and standards (AIA). Skill in operating a variety of tools and equipment used in grounds keeping work, including backhoes, sprayers, mowers, and power washers. Skill in following oral and written instructions. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other staff and the public. Ability to move objects weighing at least 50 pounds. Ability to walk, stoop, climb, and bend on a regular basis. Ability to work outside with exposure to extreme weather conditions. Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems.
Experience:
Experience equivalent to two (2) years full time grounds keeping experience and at least one (1) year of athletic fields operations and maintenance. Equivalenc y - Any equivalent combination of training and experience that would enable the candidate to satisfactorily perform and meet the duties and responsibilities required may be considered in meeting the stated minimum qualifications.
Underfill Eligibility:
An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill. This position will work in and around Education facilities and therefore an extensive background investigation and fingerprints are required for hire. Periodic re-verification of background clearances will also be conducted. Prior to hire as an employee, applicants will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. Will be required to pass a pre-employment background/fingerprint check.
