Groundskeeper Lead -
Full Time Shift:
7:00am - 3:30pm
Job Description:
PATIENT POPULATION
The patient population served can be all patients, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn. This also includes services which affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Lead Groundskeeper oversees and maintains the grounds and plantings, ensuring that all of SVMC Facilities' grounds/area is maintained in accordance with established District standards. Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act. (Gov't. Code §§ 3100, 3102) Needs to recognize that they have an affirmative duty and responsibility for reporting perceived misconduct, including actual or potential violations of laws, regulations, policies, procedures, or this organization's standards/code of conduct. The employee shall work well under pressure, meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines; and the incumbent shall at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have 3 years experience as a lead or 5 years in groundskeeping and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if required. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest commissions, proportions, and percentages if required. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS
The employee must maintain a valid CA driver's license and current DMV report, the results of which are within acceptable standards as per SVMC policy as a condition of employment. The employee will also be required as a condition of employment to enroll in the DMV Pull Notice Program to allow the Hospital to receive notice of any changes in their driving record. The employee must maintain at least state required limits of liability insurance/evidence of financial responsibility on own vehicles (such limits may not be adequate and individual should consider higher limits for their own protection).
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Indicates Essential Function 1
  • Oversees grounds keeping personnel and/ or projects for the purpose of providing direction and/or guidance to department staff. 2
  • Oversees grounds care work activities at assigned sites; coordinating work assignments, determining effectiveness of pesticide/herbicide applications, inspecting and/or evaluating projects, providing support to staff for the purpose of ensuring that all projects are completed in a safe and effective manner. 3
  • Oversees, manages, and directs horticultural duties including, but not limited to: care of trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants, planting, watering, weeding, mulching, propagation, tilling, lawn care, pruning, fertilization, plant protection from hazardous conditions, pest control, and other horticultural duties as assigned. 4
  • Plants a variety of landscaping materials, i.e. lawns, shrubbery, flowers, etc. for the purpose of keeping the grounds attractive and protecting against erosion. 5
  • Rakes leaves, hoes weeds, and performs general grounds maintenance work. 6
  • Maintains hoses, tools, supplies, and equipment in proper condition and repair. 7
  • Trims trees, hedges, and shrubs and erects tree supports. 8
  • Does general laboring tasks related to grounds and garden maintenance work. 9
  • Prepares a variety of documentation, i.e. daily tasks, projects, for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information to the Director of Facilities. 10
  • Operates and maintains irrigation systems, including repairs and expansions of existing systems. 11 Reads and writes English at a level required for successful job performance. 12
  • Recognizes the more common plant diseases and insect pests and approved methods and materials used in controlling and eradicating them. 13
  • "Recognizes the more common species of ornamental shrubs, trees, and flowers grown in California. 14 Follows oral and written directions. 15 Must be able to read and understand Chemical Material Safety Data Sheets. 16
  • Must possess a valid California driver's license. 17
  • Be in attendance on site and arrive to work on time Experience Required 3 year(s): 3 years or more experience as a groundskeeper lead, or 5 years experience as a groundskeeper.
