With over 48 years of service, this community-based non-profit organization serves more than 1,400 children and adults annually.
Primary objective:
Ensure that Shea Center arenas and grounds are in safe, working order. This position also supports all the events that occur for Shea throughout the year.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid CA Driver's License
  • 3-5 years facilities maintenance experience preferred
  • Equine experience and knowledge are a plus
  • Ability to complete tasks and assignments independently and as a Team
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and achieve targeted schedules
  • Able to lift heavy objects up to 80 pounds
  • Basic construction knowledge
  • Ability to use hand tools, light equipment, and ladders
Responsibilities:
Support the Buildings & Grounds department through following the regular duties described here: 1. Arena footing maintenance and repairs, including round pens & euro-walker 2. Landscaping and grounds maintenance - oversee landscaping company and tree trimming schedule 3. Work with manager and key staff members to coordinate large-scale projects and support events. 4. Work with manager to complete project list objectives and update weekly. 5. Compliance and adherence to Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH, Intl.) standards. 6. Be aware of, and follow all Shea Center policies, procedures and safety protocols, including COVID protocols and timekeeping procedures. 7. Use of Sales Force for maintenance requests and data input. 8. Commitment to Shea Core Behaviors and to Crucial Conversation practices. 9. Perform other duties as assigned.
Duties Arenas/Barn:
1. Become extremely proficient in grooming, deep-grooming, and watering all arena surfaces at Shea. 2. Perform arena and round pen surface maintenance monthly, annually and biannually as scheduled. 3. Manage water storage tanks (e.g.: water cycling and quality program) - four times per year, one teaspoon of bleach in each tank. 4. Regularly sweep or use blower to clean patio and front walkway thoroughly 5. Check that the washer, dryer, and water heater in the barn are working, regularly serviced and maintained as required. 6. Use blower on Oso Road and Kevin Walker Way to clean up the parking area on a regular basis. 7. Check site for fire hazards (overgrown brush, dead trees, etc.) 8. Check that irrigation system is working properly 9. Clean golf carts and work truck as needed for events or guests (truck may be taken to drive through car wash and oil can be changed at local repair shop.) 10. Walk building and site to ensure cleanliness, overall appearance and potential hazards to our clients, staff and volunteers 11. Perform any repairs to barn stalls including water bowl service, wall mat reinstallation, fan service, etc. with consultation of the Equine Mgr. 12. Other assignments as needed
Grounds:
1. Keep all drains on the property clear - develop a schedule for regular clearing. 2. Manage and maintain irrigation systems for the property. 3. Ensure the facility is ready for any weather event. 4. Establish a tree-trimming schedule with O'Connell. 5. Spray for weeds. (nontoxic anti-weed agents) 6. Keep clarifier unit maintained and cleared. 7. Maintain the woodchip trail. 8. Maintain the creek trail - keep weeds cleared. 9. Maintain driveway hillside to be trash and weed-free. 10. Put out umbrellas for volunteer team.
Building support:
1. Keep all valves in good working order through opening and closing them two times per year. 2. Keep all automatic flush toilet batteries replaced. 3. Minor plumbing clogs and basic plumbing. 4. Keep security camera lenses clean. 5. Keep building patios, front walkway, driveway and breezeway clear. 6. Keep all gutters clean and downspouts open and in good repair. 7. Open the building each morning.
Events:
1. Work with Manager, Buildings & Grounds and Events Manager to plan for and support/set up events. 2. Knowledge of evacuation procedures including use of fire hose and horse trailer hook-up.

Pay:
$24.00 - $37.00 per hour
