POSITION SUMMARY
The primary function of this position is to address all exterior property maintenance issues pertaining to all Hartford Public School facilities on an as needed basis, or as scheduled per the directive of this position's immediate supervisor. This position will also be required to assist other areas of school facility maintenance and tradesman assistance.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The two primary requirements of this position are snow plowing and grass cutting. Additionally, this position will address issues such as applying cold patch to asphalt surfaces, trimming shrubs and trees, trimming fence lines and edges using a weed trimmer, sweeping exterior surfaces, line-striping parking lots, preparing lawns for seeding, 'green' weed kill.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A valid Connecticut driver's license is required Must be capable of operating a full-sized pickup truck with trailer attached. Must have experience using tools and equipment such as, lawn mowers, chain saws, cut-off saws, pole saws, leaf blowers and all hand tools applied in this field. Must have experience of trimming bushes, hedges and trees. Must possess knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety protection of the trade(s) together with the specific requirements imposed upon workers in the performance of work by the Occupational Safety and Health Act. Must have a basic understanding of the use of appliance dollies, dolly carts, ladders, basic tools when applicable. Must be willing to respond to emergency work that might emerge outside of normal work schedule. Must be able to work within difficult time constraints and under stressful conditions. Must work and appear in an orderly and professional manner. Must possess the ability to work at heights from ladders, scaffolding, staging or similar at 20'or greater. Must be capable of repeated lifting, climbing, bending, standing and sitting for long periods of time. Must have the ability to lift 50 lbs. or more. Must be capable of working both independently and as a team member. Must be available for ALL snow and ice events.

SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Twelve-month work year; forty-hour work week. Monday through Friday 7:00 AM
  • 3:30 PM. May be required to work second shift hours of 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Salary schedule 77 of Local 566 ($44,020
  • $48,096), American Federation of State, Municipal and County Employees, AFS-CME.
