Great River Golf Club•
Golf Course Turfgrass Maintenance Position Club History:
Great River Golf Club in Milford, CT is a championship design by Tommy Fazio in 1999 on a 1½ mile stretch of undulating terrain along the Housatonic River. The course features two distinct 9-hole landscapes, with the front side weaving through lower tidal wetlands and the links-style back side elevating high above the Housatonic. In 2015, Sacred Heart University of nearby Fairfield, CT purchased Great River Golf Club with the vision of developing a unique model within the golf industry, college athletic, and university academic structures. In addition to serving a private membership of alumni & local community members, Great River is the home site of the Sacred Heart Men's & Women's Division I Golf Teams with coaching offices, indoor training facilities, and golf instruction staff located inside the Clubhouse.
Job Description:
The Great River Greens & Grounds Department is looking for highly passionate and motivated individuals to join our Golf Course Turfgrass Management team in providing premier country club conditioning for the 2025 golfing season from March to November. Team members report directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent staff. Daily job responsibilities and assignments typically include, but are not limited to: Operation of both Walk-Mowing & Ride-On Mowing Equipment Operation of Small Engine Equipment (backpack blowers, string-trimmers, chainsaws, etc.)
Operation of Tractors, Skid-Steers, & Large Equipment Pieces Clubhouse Area Lawns & Landscaping Bunker Maintenance, Tree Removal, & Drainage Repair Typical Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday:
8-hour Shift (with additional 30 minute unpaid lunch break between working hours inserted). Morning start times adjust throughout the season around sunrise times (typically around 5:30 AM during the summer, and 6:30 Spring & Fall). Numerous opportunities for Overtime Hours/Pay frequently available beyond 8 hours around active projects & weather.
Weekends:
4-Hour shift at start time (5:30 AM
  • 6:30 AM).
Typically constitutes as Overtime Pay if employee worked full weekday schedule.
Expectations:
All Golf Course Turfgrass Management team members are expected to work our 8-Hour shift a minimum of 4 weekdays/week. ALL team members are expected to work our 4-Hour Saturday or Sunday morning shifts. Applicants that are able to make working commitments through the end of November will be given priority consideration.
Job Requirements:
A positive attitude and hard working ethic, along with the ability to work together with a team of 20+ employees. Ability to perform manual labor, lift 50 pounds, and stand on feet for prolonged periods of time. Ability to work outdoors & in inclement weather conditions. Previous working experience on a golf course or in the landscaping field is highly preferred, but is not required. Applicants eager & willing to learn new skills will receive job training, development, and close attention to ensure their success. Ability to arrive to work on time and work scheduled working hours, along with a willingness to work during scheduled golfing tournaments & agronomic programs. US citizen or of legal employment status in the US. No previous education required. A background check at time of formal application will be performed as part of the screening process.
