Job Description

Job Summary:
The Maintenance & Groundskeeper is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and overall care of the buildings, grounds, and infrastructure of a Catholic retreat camp located on 400+ acres. This role ensures a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for retreatants, staff, clergy, and visitors while supporting the mission of hospitality, stewardship, and service.
Job Responsibilities:
Grounds & Property Care Maintain extensive grounds, including lawns, wooded areas, trails, parking areas, and outdoor gathering spaces Operate and maintain landscaping and grounds equipment (tractors, mowers, trimmers, blowers, snow removal equipment, etc.) Perform seasonal tasks such as leaf removal, snow clearing, and storm cleanup Assist with stewardship of land in accordance with environmental and safety best practices Building Maintenance & Repairs Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on buildings, cabins, chapels, offices, and common areas Address basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical needs as assigned Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify maintenance or safety concerns Assist with room setups, furniture movement, and facility readiness for retreats and events Health, Safety & Compliance Maintain a safe and orderly environment for guests and staff Follow safety procedures and report hazards or needed repairs promptly Assist with fire safety, emergency preparedness, and compliance requirements Support cleanliness and sanitation standards across campus Support & Collaboration Work collaboratively with operations staff, administration, and volunteers Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and courteous manner Provide on-call or weekend support as needed during retreats or special events

Volunteers Job Specifications:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent 2+ years of experience in maintenance, groundskeeping, facilities, or a related field Ability to safely operate tools and equipment Basic knowledge of building maintenance and repairs Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
Preferred:
Experience working on large properties, camps, retreat centers, or institutional facilities Familiarity with safety regulations and preventative maintenance practices Experience in a faith-based, non-profit, or hospitality setting Personal & Spiritual Qualities Respect for and support of Catholic values and mission Pride in workmanship and stewardship of property Ability to work independently and as part of a team Flexible, dependable, and service-oriented attitude Licenses Certifications and/or
Registration:
Valid Florida driver's license; must pass background screening, credit check and all diocesan requirements for employees.
Work Environment:
On-site position at a 400+ acre retreat campus Occasional evenings and weekends required to support retreats and events Ability to walk the property, inspect facilities, and respond to operational needs
