Job Description

Description Job Summary:
The grounds worker performs landscaping tasks using power equipment and hand tools to maintain the facility's grounds with the guidance of a supervisor and the grounds team.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
Mow lawns, edge sidewalks, trim weeds, and rake leaves to maintain campus grounds. Pick up and remove trash and debris before mowing designated areas. Empty trash and recycling containers throughout campus. Trim and maintain bushes, shrubs, hedges, and ornamental plants. Plant flowers, trees, and shrubs, and assist with seasonal landscape projects. Prune trees and remove brush and debris as needed. Apply fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides as directed. Perform weed control and maintain landscape beds and mulch areas. Operate and perform routine maintenance on mowers, trimmers, blowers, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, and other landscaping equipment. Assist with loading and transporting materials and supplies. Support campus events with table and chair setups and furniture moves. Help maintain athletic fields and outdoor common areas. Assist with large projects and support other Operations Department teams as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements Required Skills/Abilities:
Ability to operate various types of power equipment, including lawnmowers, trimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and other landscaping equipment Ability to use hand tools required for landscaping Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments on time Ability to work independently at times Must have excellent time management and interpersonal skills Must have excellent communication skills
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred Previous experience preferred On-the-job training offered
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, or kneeling. Must be physically able to operate power equipment. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time. Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions. Must have reliable transportation and be at work at assigned times daily
Background Requirements:
Must pass a background check. Background Check conducted through the Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse https://info.flclearinghouse.com This link provides access to the new Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse Education and Awareness Website, as mandated by House Bill 531 (2025) and effective January 1, 2026. This is a 12-month, full-time position. Hours are 7:00-3:30, Monday - Friday. Preference will be given to applicants who are members of a congregation of the churches of Christ. All applicants must be members of a local church and able to sign and abide by the MDCA Statement of Faith to be considered.
