Pay:
$17.13 - $20.04 Job Summary The Fairgrounds Technician supports the community-building mission of the Clay County Fairgrounds Complex by ensuring the safe, clean, and efficient maintenance of all buildings, grounds, and equine/livestock facilities. This position is responsible for performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to facility upkeep, grounds maintenance, and event operations. The role actively assists user groups, vendors, and event organizers with setup and breakdown activities, ensuring facilities are prepared and restored in a timely and professional manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Fairgrounds Technician I:
Starting Pay:
$17.13/hr Maintain and clean facilities, including barns, stalls, arenas, and wash racks to ensure safe and sanitary conditions. Assist with event setup and breakdown, including equipment, fencing, and seating. Maintains the Fairgrounds Complex as required i.e., empties trash cans, performs lawn maintenance and landscaping, completes minor plumbing repairs, sweeps, performs secondary building maintenance as well as custodial duties. Assists and works with various user groups and the public. Operates, maintains and services small-engine equipment, such as mowers. Assists personnel from other County departments with maintenance of grounds and buildings when needed.
Fairgrounds Technician II:
Starting Pay:
$19.25/hr This position performs all duties of a Fairgrounds Technician I as well as: Operates various pieces of heavy equipment, such as tractors, front-end loaders, water trucks and dump trucks. Performs general carpentry and plumbing duties. Perform skilled maintenance of fairgrounds facilities, including barns, arenas, and support buildings. Inspect and repair fencing, gates, and stall structures to ensure safety for animals and the public. Lead or coordinate event setup and breakdown activities. Assist in inventory control and equipment maintenance scheduling.
Fairgrounds Technician III:
Starting Pay:
$20.41/hr This position performs all duties of a Fairgrounds Technician II as well as: Maintain and clean equine facilities, including barns, stalls, arenas, and wash racks to ensure safe and sanitary conditions. Monitor and support the upkeep of livestock areas, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and animal welfare standards. Coordinate with event staff, vendors, and exhibitors to address facility needs and operational issues. Ensure compliance with safety procedures and report hazards, incidents, or maintenance concerns promptly. Assist in training new employees by providing guidance, resources, and hand-on support. Conduct inspections, maintain records, and prepare reports on facility conditions and activities May act in the capacity of the Foreman in their absence.
All Candidates:
Must be willing to work a modified schedule and/or overtime when necessary. Assist with setup and breakdown of events, including equestrian shows, fairs, and exhibitions. In case of emergency or crisis situation (hurricane, flood, etc.) position is required to respond/perform emergency and recovery duties as assigned by the County Manager or designee. During an emergency or crisis situation, this position may be required to be present at the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) to provide assistance while activated. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements Fairgrounds Technician I:
Zero (0) to two (2) years' experience working in a park, fairgrounds, entertainment arena or related facility.
Fairgrounds Technician II:
Three (3) to five (5) years' experience in park, fairgrounds, entertainment arena or related facility. Forklift Certified Target Solutions courses in basic carpentry and plumbing work for troubleshooting or equivalent courses.
Fairgrounds Technician III:
Minimum of eight (8) years' experience working in a park, fairgrounds, entertainment arena or related facility. Target Solutions Smart Leadership series of LinkedIn Learning course as directed by Learning and Development.
All Candidates:
Valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License with clean driving record is required or must be obtained within six months of placement in position. High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Any combination of education and experience may be substituted, so long as it provides the desired skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Supplemental Information Regular attendance is an essential function of this position. The position occasionally requires work beyond regular hours and on weekends. The incumbent must be willing to perform duties outside of regular working hours. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Working Environment and Physical Demands The person in this position needs to frequently move about indoors and outdoors to facilitate maintenance tasks. Constantly positions self to maintain all aspects of Fairgrounds and other County facilities, including in high, low, and confined spaces to complete maintenance tasks Frequently communicates with supervisors, other County employees, user groups and the general public. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Must be able to inspect and assess County facilities and equipment and perform needed maintenance based on assessment. Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue, including objects up to 50 pounds in weight. Constant movement and use of limbs; position requires good manual dexterity, coordination and stamina. Regularly works around moving mechanical parts and power equipment and in outside conditions that risk exposure to dust, inclement weather, heat and humidity.
