Grounds Maintenance Laborer

Duties:

Positions in this class perform mowing, trimming, landscaping, tree removal / trimming and related grounds maintenance work, depending on area of assignment, on or adjacent to streets, roads, bridges and storm water drainage channels or in city parks. Employees of this class may operate any mowing, trimming, leaf blowing equipment assigned for use in grounds maintenance. Assists Grounds Maintenance Operator / Foreman, or other foreman, depending on area of assignment. Receives explanations, directions, regarding areas to be maintained. Mows grass, trims, clean ups litter and clippings during work and upon completion. Participates in related facilities maintenance, clean up, and litter collection. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications:

• Tasks of positions in this class require some medium-heavy lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing, physical exertion as well as physical agility, manual dexterity and strength operating mowing, trimming equipment and driving.
• Literacy required. A valid driver's license is required; and also must meet the general requirements of the City's auto insurance company. Depending on area of assignment, prior experience in grounds maintenance and in operating assigned equipment is desired.
• Must be able to use basic tools.
• Must be able to follow orders.
• Must pass the civil service exam, the post-offer drug screen, physical, and functional pre-placement testing.
• Must be a registered voter / copy of the voter of registration card must accompany the application.
