The Grounds Staff are responsible for the safe, professional, reliable, efficient, environmentally-sound, and cost-effective maintenance of the grounds on the Springfield College campus. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate's possession of a Pesticide Applicator or Commercial License. Actual salaries will vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to degrees attained, experience, and other considerations permitted by law. Comprehensive compensation details, including any additional benefits, will be communicated upon finalization of the employment offer. Responsibilities Perform landscaping and turf, garden, tree maintenance as part of the Grounds Department. Perform turf mowing and related work [herbicide spraying, fertilizing, seeding, and aerating]. Perform all grounds related tasks including but not limited to: raking, weeding, sweeping, shoveling, plowing, etc. Support the activities of the Grounds Department, staff, other personnel, and contractors to ensure effective and efficient maintenance of campus grounds and facilities. Assist in the supervision of student workers and outside contractors. Operate hand and power equipment related to Grounds and general maintenance. Must be able to maintain, respect, and care for equipment and Grounds vehicles. Support other Facilities Campus Services departments to successively meet deadlines and support the Springfield College community and the college's mission. Abide by all standards for safety and health guidelines, environmental regulations, quality, and productivity by following established policies and procedures. Maintain campus grounds free of trash and litter, occasionally responsible for campus wide trash, recycling collection. Perform seasonal tasks as needed, including leaf pick-up, shoveling, clearing snow ice from walks, stairs, and pathways. Perform other work and additional duties as assigned, including assisting other Facilities Campus Services operations to complete assignments and being available for emergencies and scheduled "off-hour" work as needed. This position is also part of the severe weather response team. Custodial staff are required to participate in snow removal throughout campus, including but not limited to plowing, shoveling, clearing snow ice from walks, stairs, pathways, and roads, and being available for emergencies and scheduled "off hour" work as needed. Qualifications Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. 1-3 years of experience of various outdoor/grounds trades (mowing, raking, planting, equipment operations, etc.). Experience with snow removal operations. Pesticide applicator and hoisters license or ability to attain within 6-months highly preferred. Must possess a valid Driver's License. A full motor vehicle/driving history report will be required as a part of the background check process. Candidate's driver history must be approved by the college's vehicle insurance carrier for operation of all college vehicles. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate's possession of a Pesticide Applicator or Commercial License.
