Seasonal Gardener

Community Treehouse Center Detroit "DBA" Manistique Community Treehouse Center is seeking two experienced Garden Coordinators to help lead and maintain our growing community garden program. Candidates must have 6 or more years of gardening experience and a passion for working with youth, adults, and community volunteers.

Responsibilities include:

Leading and organizing work in 6 community gardens Recruiting and coordinating volunteers Passing out flyers weekly to help recruit volunteers and community participation Providing gardening instruction to youth and adults Working independently and managing daily garden operations without supervision Taking attendance and tracking volunteer hours Planting, weeding, composting, seed starting, watering, harvesting, and general garden maintenance Organizing volunteers to complete garden tasks efficiently Maintaining clean, safe, and productive garden spaces Assisting with seasonal garden planning and crop rotation Attending meetings related to garden operations and community activities Speaking to community members and groups about the gardens, programs, and their functions Completing assigned day-to-day and special tasks as needed Following directions and completing tasks in a timely manner Being dependable, professional, and consistently on time Lifting 40-50 pounds as needed Supporting community events and educational garden activities Ideal candidates should have strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, along with a passion for community engagement, sustainability, and teaching others. We are looking for someone who truly loves the community, enjoys helping others, and is willing to go above and beyond to support the success of the gardens and programs. We are looking for dependable, motivated individuals who enjoy outdoor work and helping communities grow through gardening, education, and volunteer leadership. There is room for advancement for the right candidate. This is a seasonal position running from April through October. There will be a 4-month evaluation of job performance to review progress, responsibilities, teamwork, attendance, and overall performance.

Pay:

$13.48 - $15.00 per hour
