Overview of Groundskeeper
Purdue University Northwest (PNW) is seeking a Groundskeeper. The Groundskeeper will performs landscape maintenance tasks, operate and provide preventive maintenance to Grounds Department equipment. Also, performs asphalt and concrete maintenance, assists in maintaining entrances, parking lots, sidewalk surfaces, turf areas, beds and appearance of campus grounds. Provides support services to campus operations and performs any other services as requested by the supervisor. Is available to work overtime when needed. Possible travel to other PNW locations.

$18.00/hour
Schedule:
Tuesday - Saturday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

Duties and Responsibilities of Groundskeeper
Operates Grounds equipment in performing landscape maintenance tasks such as weeding, planting, pruning, trimming, sowing, watering, edging, fertilizing, mowing, pond maintenance, core aerification, sweeping, plowing and discing using sophisticated equipment
Applies both pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides to control weeds
Applies insecticides where appropriate
Assist in the maintenance of greenscape irrigation systems
Maintain appearance of grounds by maintaining entrances, parking lots, sidewalk surfaces, turf areas, beds and appearance of campus grounds by daily picking up of litter and trash and cleaning of areas as prescribed by supervisor
Empties trash containers and refuse from campus as needed
Reviews campus grounds (buildings, asphalt, sidewalks, signs, etc.) for possible problems. Maintain all parking areas including roadways and lots
Remove snow and ice from lots and roads. Apply de-icers when conditions exist
Maintain and repair grounds equipment by performing preventive maintenance and minor repairs
Erect signage upon request or when needed. Assist with moves, building clean outs, block off parking lots, moving picnic tables, tent installs and event set ups

Education of Groundskeeper
HS diploma/ GED or Equivalent education and experience
Experience of Groundskeeper
Two years of demonstrated work experience in the Grounds/Landscape profession
Core Competencies of Groundskeeper
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
General mechanical and repair skills
Perform job responsibilities with direct or indirect supervision
Valid driver's license required
Be able to bend, kneel, climb a ladder up to 10 ft. high, and lift up to 100 lbs.
Must have the ability to operate grounds equipment such as tractor/loaders with manual transmissions, riding mowers with hydraulic controls, loader, snow removal equipment, aerial lift, Toolcat, etc
