Grounds Maintenance Agent is responsible for supporting and ensuring the upkeep, aesthetics and grounds maintenance for the 54 acre ecologically based retreat center. There are 12 acres of core campus gardens and grounds and 42 acres of forest with trails. Additionally, this position will do perimeter checks for campus safety. The ideal candidate will have a passion for being outdoors, knowledge of ecologically friendly approaches to grounds maintenance, experience with equipment and tools, along with a strong work ethic and attention to detail; will also be well equipped with appropriate clothing and footwear for all weather conditions. This role is integral to maintaining the look, safety, and welcoming atmosphere that our guests cherish.PRIMARY DUTIES
Campus Maintenance Lawns and Garden:
Maintain lawns, flower beds, and pathways by mowing, weeding, pruning, debris pick up, and planting as needed.Trail Maintenance:
Ensure trails throughout the forest are clear of debris, well-marked, water drainage, debris pickup, downed tree clearing, and safe for walking and hiking.Facility Exterior Maintenance:
Keep the exterior of all outdoor buildings maintained, example maintenance: gutter clean out, pathway lighting, handrails, pressure washing, painting, and minor repairs.Equipment Operation:
Knowledge of operating groundskeeping equipment, such as lawnmower, tractor, trimmers, and chainsaws, and report any issues or malfunctions promptly.Seasonal Tasks:
Prepare grounds for seasonal changesSafety and Compliance:
Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while performing duties.Collaboration:
Work closely with other staff members to coordinate grounds maintenance activities and support the overall functioning of the retreat center. Ecological Management Native and invasive plant management Conduct targeted invasive plant control via mechanical and approved chemical applications Assist in maintaining property signage Perform pest management Litter cleanup Ability to work outdoors in all season weather conditions Physical Requirements This position has considerable environmental exposure including but not limited to: Outdoor work in extreme temperatures (hot/cold) rain, snow, biting insects, poison ivy, herbicides, vegetation control (weed whackers/chainsaws) etc. Eyesight - Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses Significant walking or other means of mobility Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours) Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift/move up to 50+ pounds Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED Knowledge of plant care, and basic gardening principles. Ability to operate groundskeeping equipment safely and effectively. Strong organizational skills, timeliness, and attention to detail. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and seasonal tasks. Commitment to sustainability and environmentally-friendly practices. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. Computer literate, detail oriented for maintaining records/reports and timely completion of projects.
