Groundskeeper/Handyman

JOB OVERVIEW

The Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce, Lenoir-Rhyne University, and the Asheville Visitor Center share a 3-story building located at 36 Montford Ave. in downtown Asheville. We're looking for a motivated and responsible individual to keep the outside areas of our property clean and safe as well as doing some maintenance inside the building.

RESPONSIBILITIES GROUNDSKEEPER RESPONSIBILITY

The responsibility of the Groundskeeper is to remove trash from our parking lot and landscaped areas. The Groundskeeper will ensure all outside areas are clean, swept and safe for staff and visitors to the Asheville Visitor Center. Arriving in the morning, the Groundskeeper will also be the first employee to notice any issues that need to be addressed and will either take care of these items or report to their supervisor. The grounds are maintained by a landscaping company which performs routine tasks such as mulching, mowing and hedge trimming. Some landscaping work will be required, such as watering plants or spreading deicer on the sidewalk and parking lot during winter months.

HANDYMAN RESPONSIBILITY

The responsibility of the Handyman is light maintenance work inside and outside of our building. The Handyman will handle activities inside the building such as replacing light bulbs, light carpentry, painting, sanding, and organizing. Occasionally will be tasked with the assembly or repair of things, such as an office chair or a sink faucet. Outside work might include removing graffiti or painting handrails.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Must have a high standard for cleanliness and an eye for detail. Must possess great time management skills. Must have good communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.

CONTACT WITH OTHERS

There is frequent contact with the staff of the Asheville Chamber, Lenoir-Rhyne University and with visitors of the Asheville Visitor Center. This position also interacts with Asheville Chamber members and Lenoir-Rhyne University graduate students.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & ENVIRONMENT

This position must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. A free range of motion is required, including twisting, bending, stooping and climbing on ladders.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This position requires 4 working hours per day, 7:30 AM - 11:30 AM, three days per week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This position is non-exempt as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act.
